Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.
Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) group supports the definition, design, and development of continuously improving mobility services. SDV is a new vehicle intelligence platform that will underpin all our future innovations across a wide range of technological advancements, including EVs and expanded automated driving. The Software Architect specializes in Apps and Services and is responsible for the solution architecture components within the vehicle. In addition, you'll be designing SDV apps and services in both the app store and the OTA (Over-The-Air) operations of Ultifi system. This includes both hands-on design of various vehicle technology solution architectures as well as management of various architectural initiatives.
We're looking for a software expert with experience in embedded system and/or mobile android development who is interested in applying their experience to deliver high quality software for future SDV automotive systems.
As the sole Architect on the team, you'll play key role in the SDV Ultifi software development. This role requires expertise in Embedded Infotainment systems with Android/QNX/RTOS knowledge.
You will be technically leading the definition and architecture of our next generation systems, including new features and functionalities. This role needs quality consciousness, ability to work around the obstacles and find the right solution in a short timeframe. Excellent understanding of the embedded system requirements, Inter-ECU communications, stringent timing requirements for startup scenarios are essential to this role.
Additional Description
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide industry leading technical direction and guidance to various project teams to ensure appropriate and cost-effective application of GM approved technologies and ensure appropriate and effective data integration across multiple applications.
- Define software and communications architectures for next-generation in-vehicle computing (infotainment, telematics, mobile, web)
- Translate business objectives and market requirements to actionable deliverables by defining and delivering architectural solutions that will implement highly maintainable and reliable quality software
- Author technical requirements documents and other artifacts supporting implementation
- Act as a single point of contact for all Design topics related with app store and OTA interaction with other vehicle or back-office systems.
- Provide Architectural guidance teams on all topics related with services and apps in the vehicle's Android side
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related degree
- Minimum 8+ years Embedded/Android/QNX/Linux Software Development experience
- 6 years' experience in software architecture roles
- Proven record of technical team leadership (team of 10+ software engineers) & experience in handling vehicle level issues, Ethernet/CAN Communication protocol, analysis of logs
- Experience in Embedded software design
- Ability to lead triage team in resolving complex systemic issues
- Deep expertise and excellent programming and debugging skills with Android, Linux, Kotlin/Java etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related degree
- 10 years' experience in software architecture roles
- Prior experience in Infotainment software development
- Experience with cloud architecture and communication between IOT device & cloud
- Experience in working with Azure (Microsoft's cloud) specifically
- Knowledge of vehicle architecture and serial data communications
