The Team

The Public Cloud Security team is responsible for building products that protect data, workloads and infrastructure for some of the largest enterprise customers in the world. We help the customers in their journey to the public cloud by ensuring they have the best in class protection. The public cloud market has been growing at a very rapid rate for the last few years. As more and more enterprises use the public cloud, there is an insatiable demand for securing workloads in the public cloud. With the recent acquisition of two leading companies in this space - RedLock and Evident.io, Palo Alto Networks is now the market leader.

Job Description

Your Career

As a Software Architect, you will provide strategic architecture leadership to large engineering teams and product managers on large and complex projects Prisma Cloud Visibility Governance and Control services. You understand the business imperatives tied to these strategic projects. You provide technology leadership, drive the architecture and high level design, are the technical expert on strategic projects, drive the release strategy and guide the delivery of projects aligned to the business strategy. You maintain awareness of dependencies between projects and delivery vision, while ensuring engineering excellence to the five nines. You build the strategy for your teams to architect, design and deliver the next wave of Prisma Cloud innovation.

Your Impact

  • Drives the architecture for key cross team / cross product development projects (via architecture/design documents and developing key code modules)

  • Develops architectures that are inherently secure, robust, scalable, modular, API-centric and global

  • Establishes software development patterns and best practices via examples and shipping code -Ensures project teams follow a common set of principles, patterns and utilize a standard set of technology frameworks and libraries. Own and contribute to Prisma Cloud standards documents

  • Provides leadership across the Prisma Cloud engineering organization via the Architecture Council and ad-hoc engagements; ensure solutions are built in alignment with platform principles and standards

  • Applies architecture best practices that helps increase execution velocity. Align solutions with Prisma Cloud Platform vision

  • Lead and/or Influence technology selection for the Prisma Cloud

  • Partner with Product Managers and product management executives to define/refine roadmap, discuss trade-offs of key features and architectures, help them balance features, innovation and tech debt prioritization -Be a “sounding board” for PM ideas, propose new features and innovation ideas

  • Partner with Dev Ops teams and other peers across the Prisma Cloud team to develop best-of-breed deployment architectures

  • Optimizes use of Prisma Cloud’s Platforms & Solutions

  • Demonstrates thought leadership through presentations and teaching across Prisma Cloud

Qualifications

Your Experience

  • 15 years of work experience with a Masters degree (in computer science) or a minimum of 10 years of work experience with a PhD (in computer science)

  • Prior experience as a principal architect influencing/leading a large scale cloud security product engineering team of at least 30 engineers

  • Proven track record of successful architecture and design for high transaction (>250k/second) and data volume (>1pb/day) enterprise and/or consumer facing applications

  • 5+ years of experience in Cloud technologies - AWS plus at least one other cloud provider (Azure, GCP or OCI)

  • 15+ years of experience with large scale cloud applications experience built with one or more these languages: Java, Scala, GoLang, Python

  • Expert in database technologies (e.g., MemSQL, SQL, Cassandra, etc.), queuing systems (e.g., Kafka, Pulsar, Akka streams, etc.) -The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in these technologies

  • 3-4 yrs experience in Apache Spark, data analytics frameworks

  • Good understanding of security, cloud security domain -Principal/Chief Architect experience with an enterprise security product (on-prem or cloud)

  • Industry influence - track record of contributing code to open source projects

  • Proven ability to work with international teams and track record of delivering large projects

  • Track record day-to-day coaching and mentoring principal and senior engineers -Ability to partner and influence Directors/Sr. Managers and drive architecture execution

  • Strong executive presence and an ability to present technology strategies, discuss trade-offs, present good/bad news to executives and C-level staff. Achieve consensus/approvals for the projects/architectures

Desired Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in building Cloud Security products with a focus on configuration security, identity security and storage security

  • Experience building products with ML/AI techniques will be a big plus

Disclosure required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum compensation (includes on-target earnings = base + on target incentives for sales roles) for this role to be located in the state of Colorado. If hired in Colorado, this position starts at $163,500/yr. Depending on the position offered, restricted stock units and incentive or bonus pay may be provided as part of this compensation package.
