Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Competitive Insights Expert, you are an integral part of the new IBM Competitive Insights (CI) mission to deliver proven, actionable competitive insights to sales, tech sales and partners globally. As part of a multi-disciplinary squad, the Competitive Insights Expert owns the deep analysis of the overall portfolio and functional capabilities for a single or set of top competitor products and the creation of sales and partner enablement material.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining a deep, hands-on understanding of one or more IBM and competitive products and services with the purpose to derive insights and actions for a sales, technical sales and partner audience to grow IBM business in the face of our key competitors.
  • Collaborating with peers to establish a repeatable method to identify and research competitive hypothesis of strength or weakness, defining necessary scenarios for technical proof labs and/or commercial comparisons to test the hypothesis and analyze results to formulate a competitive tactic feasible for the target audiences.
  • Creating competitive assets such as Battlecards (Strategy, Portfolio, Announcements, Go-To-Market), whitepapers, presentations on actionable competitive strategies as well as commercial modelling and market movements. Leveraging first-hand knowledge; Studying publicly available information from competitors or other sources; Leading hands-on technical assessments; Engaging SMEs, client leaders and executives for primary research; Leveraging third-party analyst insights and secondary research sources; Covering important events such as conferences and product announcements to provide analyses and alert the right target audience.
  • Identifying, establishing, expanding, and maintaining a network of trusted informants and subject matter experts across IBM/Red Hat and our ecosystem of partners.
  • Knowing and understanding who your key stakeholders in Sales, Product Management, Marketing and Corporate Strategy are, their business objectives and needs, and what insights and deliverables would be most valuable for them to support IBM customers and grow the IBM business.
  • Actively sharing insights and deliverables through a variety of channels like Seismic, Slack, Blogs, etc. to maximize CI's impact and value to the business. Communicating insights in a way that compels stakeholders to act.
  • Contribute to or apply a methodology to gather feedback from business stakeholders on your efforts, and impact of your work.
  • Helping Competitive Insights become a mutually supportive team by actively establishing working relationships with the relevant other members of the CI organization.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Overall experience of 5+ years in the technology industry in a technical role
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, ability to learn and apply new skills fast
  • Research skills, ability to use and analyze multiple primary sources, secondary research databases and analyst services, and then synthesize, consolidate, and communicate the findings in a way that is impactful for target audiences.
  • Good verbal and written English language skills to effectively communicate and work in a global team.



Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Good technical expertise in IBM/Red Hat or competitive technology and products in at least one of these technology domains: Hybrid Cloud, Data and AI, Security, Business Automation, Observability and Operations.
  • Experience with Red Hat OpenShift, IBM Cloud Paks, public cloud service providers.
  • Experience in creating cloud native applications deployed on any Kubernetes implementation on-prem or on any public cloud platform
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - storyboarding, blog, video and presentation creation; ability to create concise and consumable insights.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing and/or go-to-market organizations through sales enablement sessions, account workshops and other appropriate formats.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced MS Excel and Powerpoint skills
  • Ambitious individual who can work under their own direction towards agreed targets/goals.
  • Ability to manage change, prioritize multiple requests and manage time well, and be able to perform under time pressures on high visibility engagements.
  • Proven interpersonal skills while contributing to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, conferences and reviewing publications
