Job Description:

Merkle is looking for a SMB Technical Architect that has a strong foundation in PHP and MySQL on a Linux platform. This person will have experience working with an application from the operating system through coding from backend to front. The SMB Technical Architect is responsible for designing complex technical solutions and providing technical expertise across multiple projects to meet client B2C and B2B requirements. This individual must have proven experience creating scalable, maintainable, and well documented solutions based on the Magento software platform and/or other PHP-based platforms. As an active team member, a successful Technical Architect will create complex site architectures to support multiple integration points, oversee the implementation of the design, attend client discovery meetings, estimate new projects, explain highly technical concepts to clients and non-technical teammates, and help resolve technical issues as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide solution architecture for the business problem, platform integration with third party services, designing and developing complex features for clients' business needs.
  • Utilize understanding of Magento's code structure and extension architecture to develop sound technical strategies.
  • Assist sales teams in project estimation and questions that arise during the pre-sales process.
  • Engage with business stakeholders to understand required capabilities, integrating business knowledge with technical solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of Mobile First, Responsive Web Design, and UX concepts -- with the ability to put them into practice.
  • Experience designing and implementing thorough development and testing workflows.
  • Able to quickly learn new processes, software, and technology and apply it to your daily routine
  • Have experience optimizing web server configurations and scaling web applications.

  • You love building both back-end and front-end code for new or existing web applications.
  • You stay ahead of web developments and trends and are passionate about collaborating with like-minded teams of engineers to share your interests.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related field strongly preferred; Master's degree; or commensurate experience
  • Experience in project and solution estimation and team structure definition.
  • Engage with business stakeholders to understand required capabilities, integrating business knowledge with technical solutions.
  • Broad knowledge of program, project and knowledge management processes and tools.
  • In-depth experience in translating account needs into a strategic implementation plan.
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiation and leadership. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications, including presentations to senior management.
  • Must possess a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of issues within the Internet economy, which may include third-party solution providers and competitors.
  • Experience in defining new architectures and ability to drive an independent project from an architectural standpoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to work comfortably with senior and peer management.
  • Deep expertise in on-line, on-demand technologies and cutting-edge training methods.
  • 7+ years' PHP development experience required.
  • Proficiency with PHP frameworks such as Zend framework.
  • In depth experience with HTML/CSS, JavaScript & JQuery, XML, MySQL, PHP.
  • Proficiency with PHP and MySQL from an OOP perspective, database schema design, LAMP Server administration.
  • You want to participate in project planning, design review, and architectural meetings.
  • Competent knowledge of e-commerce data organization and relationships.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $157,500k - $191,000k. Salary is based on a wide range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and geography.
