About the team

Our shared services team manages our platform, infrastructure, and documentation. We're a cross functional team that includes a PM, SREs, backend engineers, a technical writer, and a QA engineer. We focus on developer experience and help the product focused squads adopt new technologies and best practices. Our major initiatives include CI/CD, a centralized auth service, RBAC, a unified alerts process, SOC 2 compliance, contract tests, adopting GraphQL, and adding an API versioning service.


What you'll do

  • Ensure uptime
  • Provide timely support to our engineers
  • Lead our on-call rotation and ensure we have 24-7 coverage on major issues
  • Improve the performance of our web applications
  • Level up our team as you teach them about Infrastructure
  • Work with our developers to launch new web services in the cloud
  • Help developers launch batch processing jobs in multiple environments
  • Pioneer the use of new AWS Services
  • Own our deployment processes and manage build systems like Jenkins
  • Support our regular deploys and CI/CD process
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions with the engineering team and contribute ideas to our technology and algorithms
  • Ensure that design is architecturally sound and follows engineering best practices with regards to scalability, maintainability, and reuse
  • Maintain up to date documentation on our infrastructure, DevOps, and SRE practices
  • Join a squad and participate in daily standups and sprint meetings
  • Participate in SRE and Infrastructure meetings
  • Work with our SRE team to improve our developer experience


What we're looking for:

  • DevOps (CI/CD) experience in a containerized environment
  • Amazon AWS Experience
  • Experience with a microservices architecture
  • Experience setting up system monitoring and alerts
  • Able to set up API gateways
  • Experience new applications in a development, staging, and production environment
  • Can set up one-click deployments in a build system like Jenkins
  • Strong database knowledge - both relational (E.g., Postgres, MySql) and NoSQL (E.g., MongoDB, Redis, Dynamo DB)
  • Knowledge of queues and message brokers
  • Expertise in Object Oriented Design and programming Experience coding
  • Python Expert at source control management with git
  • Proficient at System Design
  • Can optimize performance on a web stack
  • You've been on an on-call rotation
  • Hands-on experience with agile development methodologies
  • Familiar with automated testing


Bonus

  • Deep experience on a number of AWS services, including IAM, Route 53, Document, EC2, ECS, Lambda, S3, EFS, RDS, Dynamo DB, Elastic Search, Kinesis, SageMaker, Athena. Terraform experience
  • System administration experience
  • Database tuning experience
  • Experience with system configuration management software like Ansible
  • Expertise in security Significant programming experience
  • Able to mentor developers and grow their DevOps knowledge
  • Experience designing scalable systems on a web stack
