Our Opportunity:

Chewy is seeking a Senior Virtualization and Storage Engineer in Dania Beach, FL. The Senior Virtualization and Storage Engineer has the primary responsibility to provision, install and maintain all the systems hardware and software to support the current and future needs of the business.  Day-to-day, the optimizations and performance of the infrastructure and systems allow Chewy.com to achieve its rapid growth.  This is a critical IT Infrastructure function, so the candidate must have extensive experience in virtual environments, compute, security, SAN’s, Windows core server software and other data center server infrastructure.

The focus of the focus of the Senior Virtualization and Storage Engineer will entail the engineering and support of all the virtualized and physical servers and storage infrastructure across multiple data centers, and additionally administer the operating systems and core applications while ensuring the environment is managed to meet best practice standards and agreed service availability (SLA’s).

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist with maintaining the enterprise virtualization environment (VMware), including troubleshooting, performance monitoring and optimization, capacity and continuity planning
  • Build and maintain Cisco UCS infrastructure including fabric interconnects and blade/rack servers
  • Deploy, support, and troubleshoot multiple Nutanix HCI clusters
  • Manage and maintain multiple enterprise storage arrays (Vmax, X2, Unity, Isilon, Pure)
  • Creation and management of OS gold images meeting SAN’s / NIST standards
  • Assist in the planning, design, and implementation of new virtualization technology solutions
  • Develop and maintain company standard server technology policies and ensure compliance
  • Ensure servers and applications meet proper performance, security and capacity standards
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing by creating and maintaining detailed, comprehensive documentation and diagrams
  • Maintain an expert level of knowledge of infrastructure expertise by maintaining current certifications, attending seminars or though other related activities
  • Respond quickly and effectively to production issues and take responsibility for seeing issues through resolution
  • Participate in project planning, design and maintenance of IT Infrastructure
  • Researching and sourcing new technologies, providing architectural advice / recommendations to IT management and steering committee’s to improve the infrastructure environments
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for support of systems outside of normal business hours
  • Assist in the DR (Disaster Recovery) planning of a multi-site Virtualization and Storage infrastructure along with DR planning for local sites where IT Infrastructure equipment present
  • Participate in Post-Mortem meetings to discuss any outage occurrences, develop safe guards and, where appropriate, implement any recommended changes to avoid reoccurrence

What You’ll Need:

  • Extensive experience with VMware ESX and VSphere 6.0+ deployment, configuration, and maintenance in production environments
  • Experience in SAN storage technologies and integration with VMware, specifically with Pure Storage and Dell EMC Storage Arrays (Vmax, X2, Isilon, Unity)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of enterprise-class server solutions such as Dell EMC rack servers, Nutanix HCI, Cisco UCS blade/rack servers, and Cisco Fabric Interconnects
  • Advanced knowledge in Windows Server and related technologies such as Windows 2008, Active Directory 2012 and Exchange 2013 / 2016
  • Advanced experience in deploying Windows Server technologies such as Server 2016/2019, 2016 SQL server 2014, etc. on VMware and the optimization of these platforms
  • Advanced experience in system and network management and monitoring tools such as Solar Winds, DataDog, Grafana, PRTG, SCCM and v-Realize
  • Advanced experience and knowledge in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Perl and VBScript.
  • Advanced knowledge of DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SNMP and other TCP/IP protocols and services in support of the virtualization and storage technologies.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, in addition to extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all IT Infrastructure groups
  • Strong expertise in data protection solutions such as Cohesity, Rubrik, and Commvault
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations
  • Understanding and application of ITIL principles and practices, and how they relate to the goals and objectives of the organization
  • Position may require travel
  • Must be willing to participate in on-call rotation shifts

Bonus:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • VMware certifications such as VCP, VCAP, VCDX
  • Microsoft certifications such as MCP, MCITP, MCSE, MCSA
  • Experience managing or integrating with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Certification in ITIL
  • Knowledge of project management
  • Networking skills such a TCP/IP, subnetting, ethernet, DNS, etc
