The Senior User Experience Designer is a hands-on, individual contributor in a highly responsible capacity. You will build prototypes, draw user interfaces, and take a lead role designing software experiences for Hospitals, Post-Acute Care facilities, and clinical users in the healthcare vertical. From day one onward you will design complex software with a deep purpose.
Designers are the chief evangelists for our users. It is critically important to make tools that perfectly match the workflow of an acute case manager, or to optimize the experience of a clinician assessing a patient's progress. Making these tasks effortless and efficient gives us purpose and brings great value.
Responsibilities

  • Design and lead the creation of deliverables including: high and low fidelity prototypes, information architecture diagrams and workflows, and lead usability tests to validate our software products including mobile and desktop devices.
  • Using a systematic, strategic design approach, create intuitive user experiences with strong, design-lead thinking.
  • Collaborate with front-end UI and back-end developers, product management, support, and other cross-functional teams to meet highly technical business objectives.
  • Responsibilities will span multiple development teams or practice areas.
  • From concept to execution - translate ideas and requirements into design deliverables and insure they are built to design specifications.
  • Work to achieve operational targets with a significant impact on the overall achievements of the team.
  • Communicate and present to key stakeholders and external audiences, user needs and optimal design solutions.
  • Using an Enterprise Style Guide (design patterns) work systematically within a suite of products. Create unique elements that extend the patterns of an established design system as needed.
  • Participate and lead many forms of user testing and validation. From simple, internal impressions, to formally moderated user tests that validate the product's direction and usability.
  • Work is shared freely with peers and colleagues.
  • Includes the need to mentor junior designers.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Qualifications

  • Education required: Undergraduate degree in design or relevant training.
  • Years of experience required: 5-7 + years of relevant experience in graphic design, interaction design, information architecture, front-end development, or User Experience design.

  • Experience with the tools and craft of UX Design: interactive prototypes, visual design mockups, journey maps and work-flows, user-testing methods, persona development - using such products as Sketch/Invision, Adobe Creative Suite, or other current tools.
  • Experience with Product Metrics tools and analysis - e.g., Pendo, Google Analytics.
  • Without writing code, understand the technical possibilities and limitations of enterprise software. Your knowledge of the product development process enables you to think about what the technology can do without limiting the options or prematurely optimizing a design.
  • Ability to face problems/issues that require deep understanding of the products with a strong analytical ability.
  • Clearly communicate detailed information (both spoken and written).

Working Environment and Physical Demands

  • The work environment is a corporate office setting.
  • This position requires the regular use of computers for the majority of the day, however standing options or flexible desk arrangements are available.

Travel requirements:
10% travel to customer locations or interoffice. This is an opportunity to engage with actual users or to work directly with colleagues at different locations. Domestic travel only.
UnitedHealth Group is a drug-free workplace. Candidates are required to pass a drug test before beginning employment.
