Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a specialized area; or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Hands-on experience with Unix/Linux system administration
  • LINUX/UNIX Scripting skills
  • Ceph cluster experience with data center clusters including installation, configuration, test, and troubleshooting
  • Responsive Help Desk experience
  • Microsoft Office product experience
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Data Center experience at a tier 2 / tier 3 level
  • Experience working within a distributed team and supporting remote site users
  • 10+ years of IT industry experience
  • Five years' minimum experience with enterprise storage solutions, at least two years of which must be managing & utilizing Ceph clusters at the data center level


Applicants must meet DoD 8570.1 certification requirements for IAT-II or higher

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time CONUS, scheduled and unscheduled with short notice
  • Must be able to support occasional priority actions outside of normal duty scheduling



CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a minimum of an active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility. Must be willing and able to obtain a polygraph within a reasonable amount of time after hire, with acceptable timing determined by manager. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Storage/Linux System Administrator in Huntsville, AL. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security and defense missions.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Responsibilities may include helping plan and implement Enterprise-wide storage improvements, tech refreshes, and system software enhancements or upgrades particularly with respect to enterprise storage with an eye toward improving, monitoring, and validating enterprise storage security, operational resiliency, and reliability.
  • Design, configure, validate, and support deployment, integration, and test, of interconnected Enterprise storage systems and applications
  • Maintain and tune peta-byte sized, Ceph distributed block storage clusters and supporting infrastructure including connected PL2 and PL3 ancillary networks
  • Utilizes industry best practices for root cause analysis of Enterprise storage architecture, design, configuration, and hardware failures.
  • Responsible for resolution of diverse and significant problems, along with issues of broad scope and complexity related to enterprise storage particularly with respect to Ceph distributed block storage clusters.
  • Maintain the security and stability of enterprise storage solution
  • Red Hat LINUX command level administration (RHEL 7 and above)
  • Trusted Network Environment (TNE) & PitBull command level administration
  • Command level troubleshooting of OS and associated hardware/software
  • Create and resolve helpdesk action items
  • Work with other teams/discipline to gather/collect statistical metrics & create detailed technical reports
  • Install, relocate, and/or break-down systems
  • Provide detailed technical solutions
  • Heavy interaction with customers and users
  • Must be able to perform scheduled and unscheduled fly away support - anticipated to be less than 10%
  • Must be able to support occasional priority actions outside of normal duty scheduling
  • Monitor key system metrics to identify trends and analysis using storage and enterprise monitoring tools, including SolarWinds & tools provided with Ceph
  • A self-starter able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment with proven processes and policies
  • Shows initiative on assignments, and professionally executes projects as a technical SME with little or no direction while keeping with required policies and procedures


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ceph storage experience is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong ability to recognize and clearly report relevant information
  • Knowledge of VM Ware and vCenter, Ansible, Satellite, and RHEL 7 strongly desired
  • Knowledge of Network Bound Disk Encryption (NBDE) particularly with Clevis/Tang is a plus
  • Knowledge of PL-4 and multi-level security operating systems and practices is a plus
  • Knowledge of network concepts and their application particularly with respect to internal Ceph storage cluster communication and synchronization between data center clusters is also a plus
  • Knowledge of HP 3PAR storage technology is a plus
