Purpose of the position

The Solution Architect's role is to bridge the divide between key business stakeholders and the software engineering organization. They evaluate all business requirements and look at how different elements of business, information, and technology can be applied to solve a specific problem while adhering to enterprise architecture standards and definitions. The Solution Architect is not only in charge of finding answers, but also of actively leading a technical vision from concept to completion. Theyshould be able to accurately define the scope of a project by outlining technical components and parameters, identifying applications and interfaces, and documenting these components in detailed design documents with full end-to-end timeline plans. In addition, the Solution Architect may be called upon to explain a solution to various stakeholders, including senior leadership, in both technical and layman's terms.

Core tasks and responsibilities

  • Create high-level solution-approach documents that outline the proposed solutions, technology components, estimated costs, proposed resources, and estimated timelines
  • Creates complete low-level solution designs which includes any necessary components, technology sequencing, and master end-to-end plan
  • Partner with all levels of the organization including Product / Business stakeholders, Engineering / DevOps, Agile Facilitation, Management, and Production Support / Site Reliability Engineering in the development of end-to-end solutions
  • Account for challenges on constraints including, risks, time, resources, and scope
  • Partner with Agile Facilitation and Product Management teams to provide key insights and progress into the status of solution development
  • Provide frequent reviews of in-flight solutions to stakeholders, management, and leadership and be prepared to speak to them in both technical and high-level terms
  • Works closely with Software Engineering leadership and contributors to ensure delivery of quality solutions
  • Collaborates with Enterprise Architecture and Site Reliability team to ensure proper technology selections, infrastructure design, and cloud resource allocations

Required Skills, Experience, and Competencies

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline required.
  • 8+ more years of combined software development and architecture experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with .NET (Framework and Core) development with a focus on web-related frameworks like ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC is desirable.
  • Experience developing, architecting, and/or leading teams developing web-based applications
  • 3+ years of experience with cloud computing. Microsoft Azure experience is highly desired.
  • 3+ years' experience in analyzing business requirements, recommending technical solutions, and writing technical specifications and/or requirements.
  • Experience working in a SAFe Scaled Agile environment.
  • Possesses ability to work well across teams, to get things done without the need for continuous/regular intervention of leaders; able to exercise personal influence, resolve conflict, and bring about required behaviors.
  • Ability to "connect the dots" when it comes to large system design and understand, communicate, and solve for enterprise scale technical integration concerns.
  • Analytical Skills - Strong ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem.
  • Project management and leadership skills are essential.
  • Experience developing IT and cloud infrastructure.
  • Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures.
  • Experience in software engineering and design architecture.
  • Professional experience working with and analyzing computer hardware and software.
  • Demonstrated experience to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Understanding of business analysis techniques and processes.
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal and written English.


Bonus Points

  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), Educational Management Systems, or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Systems.
  • Public GitHub portfolio is highly encouraged.
