Summary

Provides pre-sales technical engineering support to Account Executives and clients as integral part of sales process. Focuses on architecting and designing technical solutions for mid-size and enterprise accounts. Works closely with clients to determine how Logicalis solutions can best serve their needs and requirements including both on-premise and Logicalis Enterprise Cloud solutions, Managed Services, and Professional Services. Conducts in-depth assessments and functions as subject matter expert to design complex client solutions focused on IBM i operating system.

For select customers when appropriate, provides and/or directs comprehensive professional services delivery as related to infrastructure consulting, design, implementation, configuration and knowledge transfer to Logicalis clients. Designs, analyzes and implements variety of infrastructure and software with focus on IBM Power Systems and the IBM i Operating System. Acts as technical lead and provides subject matter expertise and implementation guidance to clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Engages in opportunities as subject matter expert for IBM i solutions to design and scope complex solutions and components of Logicalis services driving the sales process with focus on solution design phase.
• Conducts in-depth assessments, studies, and/or surveys to obtain data; analyzes data to advise and recommend multi-faceted solutions. Develops knowledge of client's environment to facilitate integration recommendations.
• Participates in client pre-sales calls; assists Account Executives to develop client proposals.
• Qualifies, from technical perspective, new business opportunities or requirements within existing and prospective clients to ensure alignment with target markets, portfolio, and delivery and lifecycle services capabilities.
• Prepares Statements of Work (SOWs) for Logicalis services for complex solutions and assists with the development and refinement of IBM i related Work Breakdown Structures. Follows and enhances Logicalis standards for scoping, documentation, and implementations.
• Broadens engagements with enterprise clients by promoting, defining, and positioning Logicalis services from entire portfolio as appropriate to client requirements.
• Works with Sales and Project Management to define roadmaps and milestones for Project and Delivery teams.
• Provides technical direction to Sales Engineers and Solution Architects required to resolve complex issues which ensure on-time delivery of client solutions.
• Provides consulting to Sales Engineers, Solution Architects and Service Delivery team members to ensure successful implementation of solutions.
• Communicates complex technical concepts to nontechnical audiences in proposals and in-person presentations. Provides consulting advice to client senior leadership, especially IT leadership.
• Provides product and/or solution training for Logicalis Sales teams and clients. Mentors Logicalis team members.
• Works on several different complex client projects concurrently.
• Keeps abreast of latest solutions and services Logicalis offers.
• Establishes deep relationships with clients by demonstrating excellent listening skills. Builds credibility and trust by delivering what has been promised within established timeframes.
• For select client engagements, performs implementations of overall solutions for clients, including development of solution designs, implementation plans and documentation.
• Leads project teams, when applicable, to deliver successful implementations.
• Performs expert integration and customized consulting services.
• Satisfies client technology services and solution requirements using best practices to Design, Plan, Implement, Validate and Test, Document, Provide Knowledge Transfer, Troubleshoot, and Support.
• Works with Resource Management Office and Project Management Office in scheduling and managing engagements.
• Maintains focus on client satisfaction and expectation management.
• Participates in regional and national events and regional team meetings.
• Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of Logicalis through performing behaviors consistent with the organization's values.
• Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations as well as policies and procedures of Logicalis in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behaviors.
• Supports and conducts self in a manner consistent with customer service expectations.

Education/Experience/Technical Requirements/Certifications

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in IT, Business or related field.

Experience / Technical Requirements

• 5-10 years of experience with IBM Power Systems servers, IBM i Operating System, Virtual I/O Servers, and External Storage; including design validation, migrations, and support. Proficient in the following:

• IBM Power Systems Servers including experience with the design, configuration, and installation of server, storage, network, and fiber connectivity.
• IBM i Operating System experience including design, configuration, license transfers, server administration and operations, current V7R4 back to V5R4.
• IBM i Operating System, PTF, CUME upgrade experience.
• Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) design, configuration, installation, and support experience.
• IBM Flash System Storage design, configuration experience for IBM i external storage.
• BRMS administration and operations including experience with Skip the Release Migration for operating system upgrades and server migrations.
• IBM Physical Tape Library design, configuration, installation, and support experience.
• Virtual Tape Library experience - Dell EMC Power Protect DD VTL (aka Data Domain) experience.
• IBM i Alerting experience - HelpSystems Robot Console, Network, and Alert as well as ABSMessage and others.
• High Availability and replication solution experience - Quick-EDD. Experience with PowerHA, MIMIX, iTera.
• Experience with IBM's Full System Flashcopy (FSFC) experience with IBM Flash System Storage and BRMS.

• Cross platform integration experience - IBM i LPARs with non-IBM i environments.
• Consulting experience focused on best practices for IBM Power Systems, IBM i Operating System, BRMS Backup and Retention strategies for data protection, Healthchecks, IBM i Security, Upgrade and Migration strategies.
• Proficient use of all Microsoft Office applications.

Certifications

One or more of following:

• Power Systems Competency Badges - IBM i related.
• Coursework related to IBM i System Administration: Security, Logical Partitioning and Virtualization, IBM i Storage Management, System Administration.
