Job Description:

The Role

We are looking for an experienced back-end/middle-tier engineer who loves working with data and is comfortable working across a range of technologies (Java, Oracle, AWS, Snowflake). The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate technical expertise and the ability to lead other engineers. Responsibilities include:

  • Hands-on development using Java micro-services, Oracle, Snowflake, and AWS (Lambda, S3, ECS/Docker, SQS, Cloudwatch)
  • Platform and production support across the e2e SSC platform - part of a rotation
  • Helping to design and implement the SSC platform modernization strategy
  • Mentoring and assisting other engineers on the squad and wider SS&C team
  • Working as part of an 8-person agile development team in 2-week sprints

The Skills and Expertise You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent (or compensating work experience for those without a traditional comp-sci related degree)
  • 5+ years hands-on experience as a software engineer
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior engineer responsible for implementing complex solutions
  • Demonstrated passion for working across a range of technologies rather than one primary technology (i.e. flexible rather than specialist)
  • Highly proficient in Java and experienced in developing micro-services
  • Hands-on experience working with complex data and databases, preferably Oracle PL/SQL
  • Hands-on AWS experience, certification a plus
  • Ability to trouble-shoot complex data issues across the e2e technology stack
  • Understanding of modern data architecture principals and patterns
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Desire to coach and mentor other developers to achieve their full potential
  • Experience of moving from a monolithic to a distributed/micro-service architecture
  • AWS Certification
  • Rules development using Drools, IBM ODM, or equivalent
  • Experience with variable compensation systems and domain
  • Data streaming using Kafka, Kinesis, or similar
  • CI/CD & container experience: Jenkins, Udeploy, Docker
  • Experience with Snowflake and Python
  • Experience with other databases - e.g. Dynamo, Postgres
