At Tilled, we're creating a buzz in the world of payments. Every time a bill gets paid through a software platform, payment processing revenues are generated for many stakeholders, but not the software company. We are changing those economics, with PayFac-as-a-Service. We need your help.
Position Summary:
As an early member of the engineering team, the Senior Software Engineer will have broad end-to-end responsibilities including front end, back end, deployment, and testing. Your work will have a tremendous impact on every aspect of Tilled's business success.
*This is a full-time, remote position. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and be a resident in a United States time zone.*
Here is what you can expect at Tilled:
  • Create, develop, deploy and maintain Tilled services
  • Design and implement highly reliable, fault tolerant systems
  • Collect and visualize detailed telemetry data to continuously improve systems
  • Advance and adhere to high quality coding practices - unit testing, pair programming
  • End-to-end responsibility - continuously monitor and improve the services you create
  • Promote an engineering team culture that is always learning, motivated and collaborative
  • Work with a variety of technologies - Typescript, Angular, NodeJS, Postgres

Tilled is looking for someone who has:
  • 7+ years software development experience
  • Expert level JavaScript/Typescript
  • 5+ years of web application framework experience such as NodeJS
  • You function with confidence in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • You work seamlessly in a remote dispersed team environment
  • Experience with AWS preferred
  • Experience implementing payment systems - Stripe, Braintree preferred
  • Experience optimizing production systems for performance, quality and reliability preferred

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

I work hard as Tilled’s CEO, but I also take time to pick up my daughter from school and go on vacations with my family. Recently I heard one of our leaders tell their team that family comes first, and I hope that, by example, we allow people to be humans and do what they need to do, both to get their work done and also to enjoy their lives.



How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

Effectively collaborating with other teams starts with setting expectations and openly communicating our goals. I make sure the goals I have for my team not only align with the goals of other departments, but also the company as a whole. From there, it’s crucial we are transparent about how we plan to reach those goals and are open to feedback.

One of the main challenges we face is ensuring all of our products can scale to support billions of dollars in transaction volume. We also place a deep emphasis on correctness. Keeping a balance between the two is a major focus. Payments is an interesting space globally, and the United States is behind on innovation. We want to change that.
