GDIT is looking for a Sr. Software Developer to join our Cloud Engineering and Migration Team to support cloud migration projects for our federal customers. You will work with a team of developers, architects, and Subject Matter Experts to develop and migrate open-source applications into the Cloud.

You should have a strong understanding of open-source web-based applications, software services, database technologies in a hands-on development capacity.

We are looking for a highly motivated, self-starter who embraces the DevOps culture and be able to deliver with minimal guidance. As a Sr. Software Developer/Engineer supporting National Institute of Health (NIH) National Library of Medicine (NLM), you will support application migrations into the Cloud (AWS).

Prefer candidate who lives within commuting distance to Bethesda, MD as there may be times that onsite work at the client site is needed.

In this role, a typical day will include:
  • Collaborating with NIH-NLM Teams for migrating applications into the cloud (AWS)
  • Researching, Re-engineering, Developing, Automating, Testing and Deploying Applications into the AWS Ecosystem written in Ruby & JAVA
  • Creating and maintaining Confluence Pages
  • Working with User Stories/Tasks in JIRA from the Sprint Backlog
  • Working with various teams throughout the Project
  • Logging and documenting bugs in the JIRA tracking system
  • Providing support to the team as a lead developer and assist/mentor junior team members

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline and eight years of experience
  • Experience migrating, implementing, managing, and deploying systems/applications in a DevOps environmentinto AWS
  • Minimum of five years of experience in application development and scripting using a combination of Ruby, JAVA, Bash, and Linux Shell Scripting
  • Experience with open-source SQL Databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), including developing SQL Queries
  • Experience with Indexing services, such as SOLR and ElastiSearch
  • Experience developing, testing and integrating APIs / Interfaces using JSON, XML, and YAML
  • Experience developing, testing, debugging and integrating Web Services using REST APIs, XML, SOAP and other protocols
  • Experience with tools, such as BitBucket, Artifactory, Ansible, and Bamboo for automated deployments
  • Experience in setting up CI/CD Pipelines, using Bamboo, Jenkins or Gitlab
  • Experience with Scrum and/or Kanban
  • Experience presenting to senior-level stakeholders
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

  • Experience in designing and developing DevSecOps/DevOps pipeline/automation scripts to support Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) processes
  • Experience with AWS Services; AWS RDS, EC2, Service Catalog, EBS/EFS, S3, IAM, ALB/ELB, AMI, etc.
  • Working experience with Open-Source web-bases applications in support of handling digital content
  • Familiar with Containers (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as CheckMarx, NetSparker, JMeter, and Selenium
  • Providing support to assist in obtaining application and system level Authorization for Security compliance and accreditation (ATO)
  • Experience with web technologies, such as Apache, Tomcat, Node.js, Angular.
  • AWS Certifications
