Objective

 This job is responsible to provide expertise with the design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance and operation of the software to meet the business requirements and support internal and external clients achieve their performance objectives. 

About the Role

• Lead and mentor other team members to deliver solid and scalable functionality 
•  Keeps up to date on relevant technologies and methodologies and drive architecture decisions and tool recommendations 
•  Communicate with engineering leadership and collaborate across teams to design new systems and functionality 
•  Monitor the data systems performance and integrity provide corrective and preventative maintenance as required
•  Contributes to team efforts to produce high-quality software inclusive of requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing, deployment and support
•  Analyzes large, complex data ingestion and enrichment pipelines to determine performance bottlenecks, missing functionality, and bugs
•  Writes clear technical documentation and comments in code for other developers

Required Experience and Attributes

•  Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Programming, or similar field 
•  4+ years of work experience as data engineer or working within data systems 
•  Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. C#, Java, Python, Scala) 
•  Strong experience with relational and non-relational data stores 
•  Hands-on experience with SQL database design 
•  Knowledge of cloud development (GCP, AWS, Azure) 
•  In-depth knowledge of search technologies, SOA, big data systems and distributed computing 
•  Working knowledge of Agile methodology, tools and techniques
•  Expertise working within a dynamic, high volume/data environment
•  Provides technical guidance to cross-functional/platform application development teams
•  Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

Nice to Have Experience and Education

•  Professional experience with high-throughput data ingestion queuing/streaming (Rabbit, Kafka, etc.)
•  Familiar with Docker, Kubernetes, and Jenkins or similar build automation system
•  Familiar with Elasticsearch, NoSQL databases 
•  General experience with logging, monitoring, and alerting tools and techniques 
•  General Experience converting a monolith to a microservice architecture
•  Some knowledge ofJavaScript, and one or more JS frameworks (Angular, React, Node)
•  Comfortable in both Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems
