We are currently seeking candidates in the NE Corridor area only (Washington DC to Portland, ME, including Greater NYC)


As a Backend Senior Software Engineer on the Platform team at Ollie, you will utilize Django to help create and further the development of the APIs and technical infrastructure that drive our recommendations, pricing, pet services, and order fulfillments. You will be participating in all aspects of our agile process to help design, implement, deploy, and maintain key features and 3rd party integrations. You will help in building and maintaining the administrative tools that help empower our customer experience associates. You will help in identifying and fixing system issues as well as recommending improvements and optimizations to support the growth of Ollie. You will help your fellow engineers as you set, review and maintain best practices that make our lives as engineers more pleasurable.


This position is great for you if you are a curious, collaborative, and open-minded engineer. We are looking for someone who thrives in a small team environment and is excited to both teach & learn from teammates. You have built and used many APIs before, and know thepitfalls and challenges involved with supporting and scaling them in the real world. You are someone who loves programming, but is also passionate about making a better product. You enjoy delivering reliable, performant, and well-tested code that power all your clients!

Preferred Experience:

  • 3+ years of professional experience building applications in a Python framework (Django, Flask, etc.)
  • 5+ years building API systems, including technologies such as REST, OAuth2 and integrations with 3rd party services using REST APIs and JSON
  • Understanding and professional use of a relational database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.) including SQL language.
  • Experience writing unit testsExperience with using version control (git, svn, etc.)
  • Excellent communication & collaboration skills
  • Strong technical knowledge and deep understanding of time/maintainability/quality trade-offs
  • Self-starter, positive, and excited to work with a small dedicated team
  • Passionate about using technology to streamline business processes

Bonus Points:

  • Dog Owner or Lover
  • Interest in or understanding of e-commerce platforms
  • Experience with Django
  • Experience documenting with JSON Schema and OpenAPI
  • Experience with task based systems
  • Experience with Docker/Containerization
  • Open source community contributor
