About the job
The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the KubeVirt project. In this role, you will design and implement storage solutions for containers and virtual machines (VMs), contributing to industry-leading technologies like Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, libvirt, and QEMU. As part of a geographically distributed team, you will collaborate with multiple Red Hat's engineering teams and open source communities around the globe. You'll need to be motivated and curious and have passion for problem-solving, Linux technologies, and open source. Although this position is listed for the United States, we will consider applicants from other countries where Red Hat is registered to do business to join our global team.
What you will do

  • Play an active role in container and virtualization-related projects and communities like KubeVirt, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, libvirt, and QEMU
  • Create and guide new feature development; contribute to open source projects in Golang and Python
  • Integrate changes in multiple projects and services into a consumable feature
  • Submit patches for bug fixes to the community and review patches from other members
  • Continuously test your code on all levels and continuously improve our continuous integration CI system
  • Publicize the team's work through blogs, web postings, or conference talks


What you will bring

  • 5+ years of experience working in a Linux environment with at least one language like Golang, Python, Java, or C/C++
  • Experience with Linux system programming
  • Experience with containers and orchestration, including Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, and Docker
  • Experience with storage systems and protocols like NAS, SAN, NFS, iSCSI, RBD, etc.
  • Familiarity with storage APIs, including snapshot, clone, provision, and attach, backup, and disaster recovery
  • Proven interest in software testing and CI systems
  • Understanding of multi-threaded programming and management of shared resources synchronization in complex environments
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
  • Motivated with the ability to quickly learn new technologies
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English


The following are considered a plus:

  • Familiarity with virtualization and VM orchestration, e.g. KVM, libvirt, qemu, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, oVirt, or VMware
  • Experience with software-defined storage systems liked Red Hat Ceph Storage and Red Hat Gluster Storage
  • Open source development experience
