The database market is massive (the IDC estimates it to be $119B+ by 2025!) and MongoDB is at the head of its disruption. The MongoDB community is transforming industries and empowering developers to build amazing apps that people use every day. We are the leading modern data platform and the first database provider to IPO in over 20 years. Join our team and be at the forefront of innovation and creativity.

The Database Tools and Replicator Team is working to make backups, migrations, and disaster recovery of MongoDB clusters easy and reliable. The Database Tools are open-source CLI utilities for working with MongoDB deployments. Nearly every user of MongoDB will use these tools at some point to import or export data, backup their cluster, or monitor performance.

The Replicator is a brand new tool to sync two MongoDB clusters. This is an opportunity to be part of a new project which is vital to meet the migration and disaster recovery needs of our most sophisticated users. If you're excited to design and create a high-performance, distributed service for syncing databases, this is the team for you!

This role can be based remotely in North America.

You might be right for this role if you have:

  • Hands-on experience building industrial-strength software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in at least one compiled language, and interest in working with Go
  • Solid computer science fundamentals, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture
  • Prior experience with data replication/synchronization and distributed systems (bonus)

You'll be on the team responsible for:

  • Developing a new migration and disaster recovery tool. This new tool will be used by MongoDB Atlas (our Database-as-a-Service), as well as by on-prem customers
  • Developing MongoMirror, a tool that powers migrations into MongoDB Atlas
  • Developing the MongoDB Database Tools, a set of CLI utilities for working with a MongoDB deployment. It includes tools for importing, exporting, and diagnostics

Success in this role means

  • In three months you’ll have contributed to the development of a new feature, as well as fixed a few bugs in our existing products
  • In six months, you’ll have taken on code review responsibilities and are involved in implementation of a major new feature
  • In twelve months, you’re leading the design and development of a new major feature and are helping to mentor new engineers on the team
