Team Integrations

Team Integrations focuses on managing Finch’s external-facing integrations to maintain and expand on the coverage, depth, and reliability of data retrieval from employment systems on behalf of employers. Integrations are the most critical component of our infrastructure as they control the transfer of data across numerous employment systems to be served efficiently to our customers. As a software engineer on Finch’s Integrations team, you will help expand the access of data across our many integrations while improving integration quality and reliability.


About You

You thrive on cutting through areas of high ambiguity, narrowing down high-level problems into engineering solutions. You’re able to coordinate across product, engineering, and support teams to ensure that you’re delivering the right solution for the right problem and that all parties are aligned. You value your customers and your peers and want to succeed as a team. You’re comfortable wearing many hats and aren’t afraid to execute. You’re excited by working on an API product that powers many of the world’s most impactful applications but that end users may never know exists.

What You Will Do

  • Live by and champion our values: empathy, execution, humility, and curiosity.
  • Design, build, and maintain powerful services to enable Finch’s data presentation layer.
  • Lead the charge on product expansion initiatives, including horizontal expansion of existing integrations to increase data coverage and depth as well as greenfield development in entirely new product verticals.
  • Develop, test, and maintain integrations to meet security, scalability, and performance requirements to ensure that our services run reliably and efficiently at scale.
  • Lead large product initiatives that may span across multiple teams, including activities ranging from problem definition to engineering scoping to execution to ensure the successful and smooth delivery of valuable and impactful solutions for our customers.
  • Deploy code daily.
  • Understand roadmap priorities and write code focused on scalability, testability, and maintainability.
  • Quickly debug issues throughout our stack using modern observability tooling and your solid foundation of engineering knowledge.

What You Will Bring

  • 7+ years of relevant backend development experience in a start-up environment.
  • Track record of executing and delivering on large projects with high ambiguity.
  • Detail-oriented approach to challenges and the ability to drive initiatives to completion.
  • Exposure to high-growth start-ups.
  • Knowledge of agile best practices and how to leverage them to release faster.
  • Technical understanding of the software development process.
  • Excellent written and oral business communication and people skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, including technical leaders and executive management.
  • Experience working cross-functionality across multiple teams to deliver high-quality products.
  • Experience working in a remote-first environment.

Skills

  • Deep experience working with APIs and back end technologies.
  • Strong system-design skills and experience working with distributed systems.
  • Experience working with NodeJS, PostgreSQL, Redis.
  • Experience using a cloud provider. AWS is a bonus.
  • Experience using Git in a professional environment.
  • Familiar with various API authentication and authorization methods; particularly OAuth.
  • Experience using a distributed messaging system.
  • Strong knowledge of testing best practices. TDD is a bonus.

What’s the vibe like in the office?

Our SF office is compact, dynamic, and located in FIDI near Montgomery Bart. We have plenty of natural light, tasty snacks, and 8-10 team members that come in twice a week. But the real excitement comes from our new SOCIAL CALENDAR, with monthly events like trendy happy hours and fun offsites. We're a team that works hard and plays hard! :)

What projects are you most excited about?

In engineering, work is very open-ended; it requires creative solutions. I don't always have a roadmap for the product so I have to dig and consider edge cases. The challenge is how you scope it down and identify the needs of the customer and then figure out how that all fits together. It’s the hard part but also the fun part.

How do you make yourself accessible to the rest of the team?

Visibility and accessibility are crucial in a remote-first culture. We have a virtual office in Gather where team members can walk by my desk and strike up a conversation, we use an "urgent" slack channel filled with high priority requests that is reviewed daily, and I set aside time every evening to tie up threads others have looped me in on.

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

The Experience team is new and focuses on improving touchpoints with our users. We recently updated how employer connections are shown on the developer dashboard. We're also working on improving the signup and onboarding process by creating easy-to-use sandboxes so that our prospects and users can try the new and existing features of the Finch API
