Azure Cognitive Search is looking for a software engineer who is passionate about expanding the possibilities of how Search and AI can empower developers in Azure to deliver next generation experiences. In this role, you'll be joining a new team focused on expanding the Core Platform Services for Cognitive Search. Cognitive Search is Azure's Search-as-a-Service offering that delivers a highly scalable search backend enhanced with AI powered content and query understanding which enables advanced search and knowledge mining scenarios. In your new role you'll be helping us design and deliver new product capabilities, advanced release tooling, new livesite infrastructure, optimize global compute efficiency, and automate the rapid growth of our global presence.

  • Build and drive consensus towards common goals and priorities.
  • Design and deliver software and infrastructure to improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Solve problems relating to mission critical services and create solutions to prevent problem recurrence, with the goal of automating response to all non-exceptional service conditions.
  • Influence and create new designs, architectures, and standards for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Improve cost and performance efficiency wherever the evidence suggests. Through performance analysis, system tuning, and code optimization.
  • Drive quality right from the design phase, incorporating best practices and engineering for testability.
  • Educate teams on existing, emerging technologies and drive POCs to evaluate adopting new technologies, tools, methods, and processes from Industry.
QualificationsReq uired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or IT.
  • 5+ Years of applied Software Development experience with C#/C++ OR Java OR object-oriented programming.
  • Building and shipping production grade software or services, including designing and implementing solutions involving telemetry and monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background or experience in building and designing platform services.
  • Understanding of systems fundamentals in either OS, cloud platforms or distributed systems.
  • Experience in SQL dialects, PowerShell, or automation experience.
  • Experience building and using cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Background in running services on both Linux and Windows.
  • Background or experience in advanced search domains such as analytics and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated independence, bias for action, and tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated openness to feedback and effectiveness at collaborating with diverse groups of people.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable communicating directly with audiences that include customers, peers and at times executive leadership.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
