Building features that reach diverse audiences
The major initiative that Darshana Umakanth and the Disney Streaming engineering team are working on at Disney is broadly termed “unification.” And it’s a big deal. It means that the director of software engineering of Disney Streaming and her team are looking to unify the services that power Hulu, Disney+ and Star+, bringing equal capabilities to all applications. A project like this serves her team’s all-encompassing mission: to build features that help Disney reach more diverse audiences in powerful and personalized ways.

Lawrence Leach is all about unification. That means bringing his team together to problem-solve as well as selling advertisers on an ad platform that serves as a one-stop shop for ad buys across all distribution channels. But with multiple channels come multiple tech stacks, which is a challenge he hopes to address in the months to come.
Our goal is always to get out of the way of the viewer and provide an experience that allows them to engage with the advertising like they might with the content itself.
