A Senior Engineer 2 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems, and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability is at the functional level.

Supply Chain technology transformation is central to Nordstrom’s strategic vision and our leadership is investing in our growth. In the past year, we’ve aggressively begun streamlining our technology to support a scalable and AI driven supply chain network. This will provide the foundation to quickly integrate state of the art automated, omni-channel fulfillment and distribution management systems. Nordstrom’s supply chain services process hundreds of thousands of orders per day, with transactions in tens of millions of dollars per day, and account for roughly half of the company’s multi-billion dollar sales for the year.

We have several new roles that will be opening soon for Nordstrom’s critical Supply Chain Technology teams – Fulfillment, Reverse Logistics, Warehouse Management and Transportation systems.

Key programs include:

Transform the Nordstrom Supply Chain network, by integrating state-of-the-art, warehouse management and automated fulfillment and inventory management systems

Develop systems that support complex material flow for omni-channel fulfillment centers - inventory movement, order fulfillment, shipping and data capture/analytics

Work with external partners in the development of robotic material handling systems and storage solutions that meet the requirements of the supply chain business

Revolutionize the company’s order routing and fulfillment space by building services at scale which optimally balance profitability, customer satisfaction and speed of delivery, and weaving data science, machine learning models with advanced optimization algorithms and techniques.

Advance Nordstrom’s best-in-class returns policy with a seamless reverse logistics flow designed to significantly improve customer returns experience while drastically reducing “time to restock and sell” the items.

A day in the life…

Responsible for feature design across components and services; opportunities to lead design and evaluate designs of other engineers

Responsible for implementing complex features with clear business and customer outcomes; opportunities to be technical lead within feature crew(s)

Influence quality standards and understand, identify, measure success metrics across entire solution

Influence and maintain strong DevOps ownership and culture within the team

Mentor junior members within the team and across teams on design, coding and DevOps standards

Identify performance issues and optimize solutions

Demonstrate strong knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals

You own this if you have…

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering

6+ years professional experience as a software development engineer

3+ years of experience having actively used Java or Go to write production code

5+ years of experience in full SDLC for 2+ cloud services at scale (minimum 10s of TPS), having led and contributed to design, development, validation, deployment, and monitoring of several features for those services

5+ years of experience in collaborating with other disciplines like program management and product management to deliver features

2+ years of experience in collaborating with other disciplines like program management and product management to lead cross-team features with significant bottom line impact to company/group business

2+ years experience with public cloud infrastructure (AWS)

Demonstrable experience in prior jobs mentoring team engineers in design patterns, code quality, devops excellence

Prior software development work experience in supply chain technology at a large retail company is a bonus

Knowledge in event driven design and implementation patterns, containers and micro-services, REST APIs

Minimum = $124,600/annually

Maximum = $186,900/annually
