About the job
The Red Hat Consulting team is looking for a Senior Software Development Architect to specialize in assisting our customers within the U.S. Public Sector on their continued journey of the design and development of their automated container platforms. In this role, you will focus on the analysis, planning, design, and implementations of the latest releases of the Red Hat OpenShift Container platform for some of North America Public Sector (NAPS) most strategic customers. You will work collaboratively with a team of experts that will lead the design and implementation of a modern container platform, help improve our customer's software delivery workflows, and recommend best practices in the area of cloud native application development using Docker, Kubernetes, and Red Hat OpenShift. You will help our customers migrate and modernize their applications, and focus on deployment pipelines and cloud-ready application architectures. As a Senior Software Development Architect, you'll be responsible for coaching the team and facilitating the design and technical delivery of complex solutions.
This is a remote based position with future weekly travel to customer sites and can be located anywhere in the U.S. within close proximity to an airport. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Lead the discovery, architecture, design, and onboarding of applications using modern application migration, modernization, and development practices with emerging open source technologies
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to project teams, to help increase customer success
  • Help cover domains including microservices, API management, and web-scale architectures, DevOps engineering and application delivery, container-based continuous delivery (CD), e.g., using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, cloud automation, and Everything-as-Code
  • Ensure that project workstreams are delivering the vision and resolve conflicting interests within these streams
  • Communicate complex technical ideas into presentations and brief for non-technical participants
  • Present vision, strategy, technology, and roadmaps to executives, technical management, engineers, and operators
  • Remain an active coder, as this might be required during our delivery engagements, and maintain deep direct technical knowledge of container management systems (CMSs), application infrastructure, architectures, and development solutions
  • Support pre and post-sales field teams during workshops, proofs of concepts, pilots, and production deployments
  • Actively contribute to and guide creation of reference architectures, design considerations, and best practices
  • Assist in the development of standard reusable consulting practice delivery guides and service offerings, including definition of tasks, deliverables, and standard estimates
  • Document through architectural models or views the current and future needs of the assigned client and how they will be met in an efficient, sustainable, agile, adaptable and fiscally responsible manner


What you will bring

  • Minimum active DoD Secret security clearance; must be able to maintain DoD Secret clearance at Red Hat
  • 8+ years of experience working as a software architect, consulting architect, or in similar roles
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related technical discipline
  • Proven experience architecting, designing, and developing complex customer solutions in a rapidly evolving technology domain
  • Experience facilitating software design, architecture, and ideation sessions
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or Red Hat OpenShift, or other container tools
  • Working knowledge of object-oriented design, API design, and design patterns applicable to modern software development
  • Applied knowledge of working with agile, scrum, and DevOps teams
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers in Software Development and DevOps practices
  • Working knowledge of Java, Python, Go, and Bash
  • Applied knowledge of modern software development practices including, but not limited to: requirements analysis - domain driven design, testing - test drive design or development (TDD), behavior driven design or development (BDD), and software engineering, e.g., applied software design patterns, hexagonal architecture
  • Experience managing the life cycle of various DevOps tools including, but not limited to: source control (Git), configuration management (Ansible), continuous integration (Jenkins, Tekton), continuous delivery (ArgoCD), testing (Junit, Selenium, jMeter), artifact repository (Artifactory, Nexus, Quay), and monitoring and logging (Prometheus, EFK or ELK stack, Splunk, Grafana)
  • Experience maintaining DHS Entry on Duty (EOD) suitability necessary to bill to a long-term enterprise consulting delivery engagement
