About the Team

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines knowledge in software engineering and how applications run in production at scale. At Assurance, our CORE/Builder Tools team is a group of site reliability engineers that owns the foundation, infrastructure, and platform of getting things done at Assurance.

This position is responsible for empowering business growth by providing world-class tooling, CI/CD, and service frameworks. Running software at scale on AWS is hard - we make it easy, reliable, to high standards, and most of all - secure. You’re passionate about how code impacts customers. You care deeply about building the careers of your reports. The ideal candidate has good instincts and strong judgment, and your decisions were tested by time over and over again. You demonstrate an exemplary level of ownership and no problem is below you. You love to wear multiple hats, create order from chaos, and empower your team to make good decisions. You’re good at leading from the front and you know when it is time to step to the back.

What we do

• Maintain company-wide processes for builders, growing a culture of operational excellence, learning from past mistakes and reducing operational burden through education, tools, examples, and accountability.
• Own the builder experience- our team’s customers are developers! We care deeply about their experience and actively are looking for ways to improve it. We use our own tools, provide robust documentation, give timely support, and use the voice of our customer in everything we do.

We would like to see

• Have 4+ years of practical experience in software engineering
• Have a track record of designing, developing, and shipping complex software projects that required cross-team collaboration
• Be proficient in at least one high-level programming language such as Java, Python, or Ruby
• Have excellent oral and written communication skills
• Have a track record of leading engineering teams and delivering complex projects that require cross-org and cross-team collaboration

Bonus if you

• Have comfortable familiarity with AWS and various core services on AWS
• Have practical experience working in distributed, service oriented architecture
• Have experience working in the fintech or insuretech business domain
• Be passionate about improving the lives of builders and their customers

Our Offices 

We have 4 engineering offices worldwide in Seattle (headquarters), Toronto, Ft. Lauderdale, and Kathmandu. Each office has many teams of engineers; each team owns a set of software applications and business functionality. We work collaboratively across time zones and geographies, using Slack, Zoom, Github, and email. Engineers in remote offices will typically visit headquarters once or twice per year.
