About the job
The Red Hat OpenShift Site Reliability Engineering Platform team (SRE-P) is looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join our global team in the U.S. In this role, you'll need to be able to work in a complicated and fast-paced environment while quickly learning new skills and creating ways to consistently meet service-level agreements (SLAs) and keep a globally-distributed, cloud-based, containerized service (OpenShift) running for our customers. Red Hat OpenShift is enterprise Kubernetes and SRE-P is Red Hat's team that develops and operates Red Hat OpenShift as a public cloud service for large enterprise customers. This is a key role within the team, as you'll be responsible for keeping the Red Hat OpenShift Platform environment available and secure. You will be contributing to solutions that make Red Hat OpenShift scalable, featureful, resilient, and secure while maintaining a balance between development and operations work. You'll contribute to the design and development of automation software to provision, upgrade, monitor, and heal a large global fleet of Red Hat OpenShift clusters deployed across multiple public clouds. You'll participate in a global on-call rotation and help lead incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities, and manage engineering efforts against SLA and error budget. SRE-P is a sophisticated, global, fast-paced team inside the world's open source leader with constant opportunities to learn new skills and innovate new solutions to meet our customers' demands. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer on this team, you will directly contribute to Red Hat's success in the rapidly growing Kubernetes-as-a-Service market. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Design and write automation software to provision, upgrade, and monitor a large global fleet of FedRAMP-compliant OpenShift clusters deployed in AWS GovCloud

  • Perform software updates, peer code reviews, testing, and common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVE) analysis; respond to security threats
  • Identify single points of failure and other high-risk architecture issues; propose and implement more resilient resolutions
  • Participate in a continuous monitoring program for the production environment
  • Resolve customer issues in cooperation with Red Hat's global customer support team
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for performing maintenance tasks, applying configuration changes, and remediating problems in our environment
  • Participate in a regular shift and on-call rotation; this will include a weekend and nighttime schedule

What you will bring

  • 5+ years of experience managing Linux servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, or Fedora hosted at a cloud provider like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Compute Engine (GCE), or Microsoft Azure
