The Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) acts as a bridge between software engineering and IT operations. The primary goal of this role is to maintain software applications/Infrastructure that are reliable, scalable, and to improve performance and operational efficiency. Also, to make sure Home and Community products meets all standards and have implemented right tools and executed exercise to validate System availability, latency, performance, efficiency, monitoring, Incident Priority, and capacity planning.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Layer in instrumentation in the development process so that applications can be monitored
  • Establish measurements that are used to detect internal problems before they result in user visible outages
  • Build processes and diagnostics tools to troubleshoot, maintain and optimize solutions and respond to customer and production issues
  • Embrace continuous learning of engineering practices to ensure industry best practices and technology adoption, including DevOps, Cloud and Agile thinking
  • Tech debt reduction/Tech transformation including Open source adoption, Cloud adoption, HCP assessment and adoption
  • Contribution to Optum Inner source / industry SRE community
  • Improve processes/runbooks and champion automation of any manual items around support
  • Perform root cause analysis and deliver resolution for tools and automation failures

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical role or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a SRE and DevOps Engineer
  • 5+ years of experience in integrating monitoring and alerting into cloud software solutions
  • 3+ years of experience creating runbooks, processes, and test plans around reliability, performance, etc. of infrastructure/applications
  • 2+ years of experience implementing dashboards to help teams visualize logs, instrumentation, and other data to ensure optimal performance of the applications and/or infrastructure
  • 2+ years of experience Defining Service Identify and measure SLOs, SLAs and SLIs


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience working on an infrastructure/platform team
  • Working experience in deployment process through CD/CI (Jenkins / Docker) integration
  • Experience in Splunk / Dynatrace / Grafana/ Telemetry or similar for monitoring
  • Experience working on Kafka, Elasticsearch and stream architecture platform
  • Experience planning and supporting +99.99% availability against critical applications in production
  • Some Experience in Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch on public or private Cloud, like Azure, Google Cloud, AWS, Dockers, k8s
  • Some Experience with Container Orchestration Tools like Kubernetes, OpenShift and enabling logging/monitoring solutions for these tools
  • Actively participate in on-call rotation, when not on call improve operational tooling, frameworks, perform chaos engineering activities
  • Automate alerts for metrics on performance, cost, vulnerabilities, risk, compliance violations
  • Improve processes/runbooks and champion automation of any manual items around support
  • Perform root cause analysis and deliver resolution for tools and automation failures

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
