ESG supports a variety of government customers spanning technology domains, and is an extremely fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies including the X-37B, the world's first fully autonomous reusable spaceplane, which recently launched on its sixth and most ambitious flight yet.As the SEIT Lead for your assigned program, you will be responsible for leading the engineering team to rapidly define, develop, and demonstrate a system that meets our customers' mission objectives and will be accountable for the coherence and completeness of the system and mission design. Additionally, you will support the Chief Engineer in ensuring the quality and technical integrity of the team's technical approaches, designs, analyses, and processes and will be expected to implement best practices, process improvements, and new and novel approaches to deliver industry-leading value to our customers. You will serve as a core point of contact for our customers and must effectively integrate a broad, diverse, and distributed team of customers, partners, consultants, peers, subcontractors, and suppliers to quickly iterate and converge on achievable solutions that meet our customers' needs. Our development timelines are aggressive and you will be asked to develop solutions to previously unsolved problems.In this role, you will lead multidisciplinary teams to bring concept of operations to fruition in support of our customers' mission objectives. You will work both as an individual contributor and as a team lead. An ideal candidate has a strong technical background across all spacecraft subsystems with particular depth in Attitude Control Systems (ACS)/Guidance Navigation & Control (GNC), spacecraft operations, or mission modeling as well as a strong system background spanning both space and ground domains. You will need to be able to dive into broad, minimally-defined design spaces and effectively lead integrated efforts. Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering team to rapidly take our customers' mission objectives from concept to demonstration
    • Lead system design & analyses, design reviews, system integration & test, sell off, demonstration
    • Ensure the coherence and completeness of the system and mission design
    • Support the Chief Engineer in ensuring the quality and technical integrity of the team's products and processes
    • Implement best practices, process improvements, and new and novel approaches to deliver industry-leading value
  • Perform core leadership responsibilities, including:
    • Risk, issues, and opportunities (RIO) management
    • Trade development and closure
    • Action item tracking and closure
    • Engineering development unit (EDU) usage planning
    • Team coordination (Architecture Council, design working groups, factory coordination, software build coordination, etc.)
  • Prepare and present weekly and monthly status briefings to internal and external executive leadership
  • Effectively build and manage relationships with customers, partners, consultants, peers, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Work proactively and independently in a fast-paced, demanding atmosphere

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location. Work Authorization: This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Master's degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 10 years of systems engineering experience
  • 3 years of project management experience
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and external customers
  • Experience in spacecraft, launch vehicles, or highly autonomous unmanned systems

Typical Education & Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Relocation: This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
