This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week. Relocation may be provided.

The Senior Robotics Engineer is responsible for supporting and reinforcing the adoption of Robotics Software Engineering across the MFG IT organization with the goal of establishing significant improvements in the Manufacturing space relative to manufacturing productivity/efficiency.
The Senior Robotics Engineer will drive the identification, evaluation, and adoption of rapid iterative and incremental robotics software solutions together with our Manufacturing Engineering business partners. The ideal candidate can embrace, execute and apply Transformative Robotic Technologies, Simulation, ML/DL, Computer Vision and the delivery of turn-key solutions.
Specific areas of responsibilities include:
- Definition and adoption of GM MFG IT Robotics capabilities
- Identify opportunities to update and/or streamline the current GM Robotics Engineering processes together with Manufacturing Engineering SMEs
- Track emerging technologies in the industry, and provide technology recommendations, risk assessments, trade studies, and analyses
- Human-robot interaction
- Define and develop ML/DL solutions in real-world environments
- Computer Vision solutions in real-world environments
- Advanced Motion Planning
- Ability to digest, design and deploy solutions based on research artifacts
- Anomaly detection
- Simulation
- Data Visualization
- Designing solutions at scale (minimize operational overhead)
- End to end understanding of systems and interfaces, so solutions can be built to fit within constraints
Additional Description
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science and/or Mechanical Engineering
- 4+ years of hands-on industry robotics experience
- Knowledge and experience with linear algebra, computer vision, and overall software development process as part of a team
- Experience with Fanuc robots and programming in Karel
- Experience working with a variety of vision sensors (such as Photoneo), and especially depth-capable sensors and the associated point cloud outputs
- Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) and MoveIt
- Design experience with SolidWorks for modeling mounts for robot sensors
- Experience with robot safety systems
- Development experience with edge computing devices, such as Jetson Nano
- Development experience in C, C++, Java, Python, and OpenGL
- Proven experience in cloud technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes, and High-Performance Compute (HPC) clusters
- Experience with Linux, bash scripts, SSH, X11 forwarding, and running remote interpreters
- Experience with ML/DL, Computer Vision, Data Mining, Visualization and Simulation
- Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Keras
- Experience with Pandas, PySpark, and Big Data
Preferred Skills
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to think outside the box
- Very strong background in math
COMPENSATION
The median level of salary compensation for this role is $86,460 - $113,760
