Primary Responsibilities

Senior Bridge Engineer responsibilities may include:

  • Lead a team to conduct analyses, develop design solutions, and lead the preparation of design drawings, calculations and specifications for bridge engineering projects
  • Perform engineering designs requiring application of standard and advanced techniques and procedures as well as bringing in past industry experience to strengthen the team to deliver excellent technical work
  • Perform complex structural planning, analysis and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects; typical projects might include bridge, box culvert and retaining wall design for highway projects
  • Proven background of technical leadership on these types of projects
  • Provide technical mentorship and development to less-experienced staff as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design
  • Supervise junior-level engineers in the performance of engineering tasks
  • Perform quality control reviews of the design work being performed by the design team
  • Work independently on small technical engineering projects or lead a team of junior- and mid-level engineers on larger technical projects
  • Responsible for the technical development of bridge projects from inception to completion
  • Aid in the preparation of technical proposals
  • Represent HDR at industry technical seminars
  • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
  • Project management: Managing scope, schedule, staffing, budget, etc.



Additionally, part of your duties may include bridge engineering, including performing bridge engineering/design calculations, developing structural details, using specialized software (MicroStation, MathCAD, LARSA or various concrete and steel design or analysis programs), inspecting bridges and performing load rating calculations as well as assisting with geometric layout, writing specifications and developing cost estimates. Assignments may also include structural services related to inspections or construction.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering required
  • PE required
  • 10 or more years' experience
  • Extensive Project Manager experience managing multiple projects for Rail or Transit clients
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience using Microsoft Office Suite, and other project management tools
  • Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software (Bentley LEAP Bridge Enterprise, CSI Bridge, LUSAS, LARSA)
  • Excellent communication skills and working in a team environment
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must



Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Civil Engineering
  • Experience working with AREMA's Manual for Railway Engineering and other railroad design specifications
  • Demonstrated client development or client management experience
