Hermeus is a startup developing hypersonic aircraft to radically accelerate air travel. At Mach 5, more than twice the speed of the supersonic Concorde, passengers will be able to cross the Atlantic in 90 minutes. On the path to hypersonic passenger aircraft, Hermeus is partnering with government agencies including the US Air Force and NASA to develop a series of autonomous aircraft that derisk the technology and solve urgent national security challenges. These products provide the data and confidence necessary to certify, produce, operate, and maintain safe and comfortable commercial aircraft. Hypersonic aircraft have the potential to create trillions of dollars of new global economic growth per year, unlocking significant resources that can be utilized to solve the world’s greatest problems.

An Insider's view of Hermeus

How does your team reward individual success?

We give out "Badass" awards when individuals go above and beyond expectations to support the company. They receive a patch they can put onto their work jacket, and it comes with financial incentive as well.

Danielle Mitrak

Head of Quarterhorse Engineering

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

For hypersonics, all the engineering subsystems are really close-coupled - and this means that strong teamwork is a *massive* part of the day-to-day here at Hermeus. Whether it's brainstorming on system requirements, turning wrenches together, or hanging out at company happy hours; we're always collaborating with people on other teams!

Antony Samuel

Lead Avionics Engineer

What unique initiatives do you have that encourage innovation?

Started an initiative called "moonshots" - projects that may have a low likelihood of success, but a massive , sustainable impact if successful. Open to anyone in the company to propose. These projects have led to some rapid, major improvements in the products we build, and reinforced the key virtues of our culture, especially speed and iteration.

AJ Piplica

CEO

How does the company support your career growth?

Hermeus is the perfect place to grow as a young engineer. As a structures engineer, I get to own large assemblies and take them through design, analysis, and manufacturing cycles, giving me diverse experiences far beyond what I would get in a traditional aerospace role.

Roshan Nair

Structures Engineer
