The Red Hat Product Experience Engineering team is looking for a Principal Product Experience Engineer to join our worldwide Portfolio Life Cycle Management (PLM) team in the U.S. In this role, you will work for one of the fastest-growing enterprise software and services companies and the leader of open source software. You will work as part of a team dedicated to delivering a unified strategy across the Red Hat portfolio. This strategy amplifies customer feedback, influences the end-to-end product development cycle, and promotes an improved customer experience with our offerings. You'll help us advocate product and solution readiness across the organization and provide a top-down portfolio view of planning and enablement. Your mission will be to understand how customers use Red Hat's offerings both individually and as part of a portfolio solution and to amplify user experience throughout the development cycle. You will collaborate with our customers as well as with our peers in the product management, engineering, quality engineering (QE), documentation, and technical support teams. As a Principal Product Experience Engineer, you will apply your technical abilities and knowledge at the program level. You will attend program calls, stay up to date on changing technologies and requirements, and filter technical information into the existing product experience engineering infrastructure when the need arises. In addition, you will have the opportunity to play a leadership role in helping prepare our support team, ensuring they understand the technologies involved, opportunities for training, and what to expect as we approach a release. Work location is flexible and well-qualified, home-based applicants will also be considered to work remotely.
What you will do

  • Understand how Red Hat makes use of the lowest-level virtualization components across our entire portfolio
  • Serve as a point of contact for all low-level virtualization customer and product experience issues, across Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and layered offerings, including Red Hat Virtualization, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, container-native virtualization, etc.
  • Prioritize and communicate customer and product impacting changes that need to be addressed in our virtualization stack into Engineering


What you will bring

  • Expertise in low-level virtualization components, including QEMU, KVM, libvirt, etc.
  • Experience working as a support, sustaining, or development engineer, or other directly related experience in an enterprise environment
  • Creative problem-solver with a solid troubleshooting mindset; ability to work on your own and effective time management skills
  • Passionate about technology and committed to providing the best product experience possible for Red Hat's customers
  • Record of solving complex problems efficiently
  • Highly motivated and flexible; ability to learn on your own and work as part of a team and provide leadership when needed


The following are considered a plus:

  • Ability to read and write code in multiple languages
  • Experience using Git and GitLab or GitHub
  • Upstream involvement in open source projects, including patches submitted for upstream inclusion
