The Red Hat Performance and Scale Engineering team is looking for a Senior Performance and DevOps Engineer to join our OpenShift Virtualization Performance and Scale team in North America. In this role, you will be part of a team responsible for improving the performance and scalability of Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization (upstream KubeVirt) through benchmarking, data analysis, debugging, data visualization, and building automation tools. You will be required to formulate and execute performance test plans, investigate Linux, KubeVirt, and Red Hat OpenShift performance tuning knobs, and publish results on a regular basis. You will also have the opportunity to enhance or create benchmarking tools, develop automation, and build a Continuous Performance Evaluation framework to make us more productive. As a Senior Performance and DevOps Engineer, you'll need to be able to think creatively, adapt to rapid change, and have the willingness to learn and apply new technologies. You will join a vibrant open source culture and help promote performance and innovation in this Red Hat engineering team. What you will do
- Execute performance and scalability benchmarks against Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization
- Collaborate on the building of the Continuous Performance Evaluation framework using in-house developed code and external applications like Jenkins, Apache Airflow, Elasticsearch, and Grafana
- Build and execute performance test plans against new product features in Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization
- Collaborate with the Development and quality engineering (QE) teams to resolve performance issues in the Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization offering before it is released
- Triage, debug, and solve customer cases related to OpenShift Virtualization performance
- Publish results, conclusions, recommendations, and best practices via documents and blogs to the field, partners, and customers
- Speak in internal and external conferences about your work and results
What you will bring
- 4+ years of relevant technical experience
- Experience running performance tests and data capture, analysis, and visualization
- Experience with Elasticsearch for data storage and Grafana for data visualization
- Programming experience with Python or willingness to learn
- Broad familiarity with the Linux operating system; Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Fedora, or CentOS are a plus
- Experience with virtualization technologies like KVM, Red Hat Virtualization, or VMware vSphere
