Senior Patent Engineer
Summary
In-house senior patent engineer handling various aspects of the company's patent protection and clearance efforts. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to develop and manage the company's patent portfolio including capturing inventions, assisting in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, conducting patentability searches, conducting product clearance, and assisting with third party IP issues including supporting litigation, dispute resolution and licensing with respect to execution of the company's IP strategy.
This position is hands-on. The successful candidate will have detailed and extensive experience in patent matters and be comfortable working directly with and supporting various key departments including game design, engineering, product management, compliance, and sales on gaming-related patents.
What You'll Do• Conduct patentability searches• Conduct product clearance for patents• Support investigations of patent validity and infringement• Create patent landscape to support business objectives• Prepare regular reporting of detailed industrywide IP holdings and trends• Develop IP landscape and business overview reports for entry into new markets and product lines• Partner with technology teams to identify and capture design and development innovations for protection through the "invention disclosure program" (process to encourage innovation, track lab notes and ideas and convert this data to IP rights)• Managing patent portfolio related activities, including the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, both design and utility• Conduct patent research and provide patent analysis• Other tasks as assigned
What We're Looking For

  • Strong knowledge of patent related matters (utility and design) and processes required for consideration
  • A deep understanding of a wide variety of patent issues, and ability to provide practical recommendations and guidance to all levels of the organization
  • Meticulous attention to detail while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills - ability to handle multiple ongoing projects with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, business, negotiation and communication skills - you must be able to absorb complex issues and communicate these issues in a simple and understandable manner to business and technical associates
  • Strong investigative, analytical and research skills
  • Excellent business judgment with an ability to think strategically including translating risk analysis in support of business recommendations
  • Positive attitude, be comfortable taking initiative, embrace teamwork
  • Domestic travel required; mainly to satellite office(s) and gaming shows
  • Should have experience working in a heavily matrixed environment
  • Extensive technical knowledge and experience in games, game design, system and network configuration and operation, electronics and software preferred
  • Knowledge of patent search tools preferred
  • Knowledge of CPi or similar docketing system preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years intellectual property experience in the technology sector, focused on patent prosecution or patent analytics, preferably at a gaming company working in a cooperative environment directly with business and technical associates
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other related discipline
  • Gaming, game design/development experience preferred
  • Strong academic credentials
