Job summary
The Red Hat Infrastructure Platforms team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in Raleigh, NC; Boston or Westford, MA; or on the East Coast. In this role, you will partner with engineering, security, IT, and platform teams to deliver infrastructure and services consumed by processes that create Red Hat's world-class open source software. Your mission each day will be to make these systems work and become more efficient and secure at each available opportunity. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will coordinate between the Infrastructure Platforms communities and the networking and security teams to create secure, reliable platforms for internal engineering, quality assurance, and support organizations. You help design and implement standards across Red Hat's internal "customer zero" infrastructure that is used to build and release Hat's world-class open source software. Join our team of passionate administrators and engineers in creating a sustainable monitoring and logging solution for our edge technologies.
Primary job responsibilities

  • Coordinate with stakeholders, partners, and technical leads to implement networking solutions
  • Identify security policy needs for internal environments
  • Collaborate with technical leads to prioritize changes to networking infrastructure
  • Document, maintain, and support networking hardware like switches, load balancers, etc.
  • Demonstrate your passion for troubleshooting, open source technology, and methodologies
  • Assist application teams with performance improvement and automation activities to enhance productivity
  • Design, review, document, and present future network architectures
  • Collaborate with members of the global teams to provide escalated support in critical situations


Required skills

  • 4+ years of Linux operating system installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance experience
  • Experience in monitoring network traffic for bottlenecks and security issues
  • Experience modelling networks
  • Proven record of assessing technical and business impacts of network changes
  • Experience in monitoring large scale environments using Zabbix, Nagios, or Prometheus
  • Automation skills using a configuration, network management, or orchestration systems e.g., NETCONF, Ansible, Puppet
  • Experience in DNS, DHCP, or IPAM; experience with Infoblox DDI is a plus
  • Some experience with SAN management and configuration
  • Expertise with network device management and configuration
  • Understanding of agile development practices
  • Solid spoken and written English skills
  • Knowledge of or experience with highly available VIOS instances and KVM on Power are a plus
  • Experience with x86, ppc64, s/390/x, and aarch64 is a plus
  • Experience with F5 is a plus
  • Professional Linux and network certifications are a plus
