Senior Manufacturing Dimensional Engineer
The Senior Manufacturing Dimensional Engineer must be able to work autonomously with minimal guidance from supervision. They are expected to lead and teach less experienced engineers, understand complex product design and manufacturing issues and drive problem solving and implementation of solutions. Expected to communicate and present issues and solutions to various levels of management in an appropriate clear and concise manner. Responsible for reviewing product and process from initial product concept, through detailed design, analysis, validation, execution, and launch. Seeks and implements continuous improvements to products and processes in all areas of automotive assembly including Bodyshop, Paint and General Assembly. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly plant where creativity and initiative are exercised as well as independent judgment.
Responsible for Supporting or Executing:
- Overall static quality of the vehicle including interior and exterior fit and finish, closing efforts, wind noise and water leak performance.
- Develop and execute the dimensional management plan for the vehicle assembly process.
- Critically review product design for dimensional integrity and manufacturability and drive corrections and improvements.
- Drive System Integration into key Studio and Product designs, with product and manufacturing enablers that will ensure successful builds, working with the proper teams.
- Oversee support work from Architects and analysis group doing 3D variation analysis to balance DTS and identify issues/high contribution areas.
- Support Pre-Integration Build events as needed: Prioritize issues, summarize dimensional performance, support root cause activities in a timely manner. Report in program review meetings and document findings/recommendations.
Additional Description
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or equivalent training/experience
- Working knowledge of the Vehicle Development Process, including process and product deliverables.
- Ability to read and interpret Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Working knowledge of Dimensional Variation Management strategies, including coordinated datums, product/process enablers, variation analysis modeling techniques, GD&T strategies, and familiarity with the ASME Y14.5.2 standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle manufacturing and assembly processes
- At least 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
- At least 2 years of experience providing technical direction.
- Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time
- Software Proficiency: Microsoft Suite, Team Center, TCvis.
