One of the components of this infrastructure that helps achieve the global scale involves network software that provides optimized and secure connectivity - between our customers and the application, between our data centers and customer applications. The Connectivity and Edge teams are responsible for delivering many of the sophisticated software products that deliver this experience to our customers. As our service and platform grow to fully embrace lights-out operations, single-click deploy to tens of thousands of nodes, and services that self-heal and self-optimize, we have to balance this with global scale and traffic distribution to enhance our end user experience.

We are hiring an Engineering leader for the Edge Control Plane team to drive key products, features and own end-to-end lifecycle of services including live-site responsibilities. Our software stack is based on Java, Spring, Docker, Kubernetes. We are well underway on the path to redefining our software toward cloud native primitives to run in the public cloud. As a part of this journey we are looking for someone who can help us deliver enhanced engineering efficiency by hiring and retaining top notch software developers. We also aim to improve global coverage for our services by building a center of expertise that can shoulder the responsibilities of a global live-site infrastructure.

Some attributes of the successful candidate

• Ability to identify, hire and retain a team of strong software engineers
• Familiarity with end-to-end ownership of software from code to live site services
• Experience and passion for service ownership, building reliable/self-healing services.
• Experience working in a sophisticated team environment. Able to deliver under pressure and dependency constraints.
• Experience building large scale distributed systems, especially in cloud environments
• Familiar with public cloud services with AWS and Google Cloud Platform
• Experience at Scrum or other agile development methodologies, with attention to code quality, delivering secure code
• You have experience balancing live-site management, feature delivery, and retirement of technical debt.
• Familiarity with crash-only and recovery-oriented software design.
• Excited by building reliable, self-healing services on unreliable hardware.
• Experience designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems that run across thousands of compute nodes in multiple datacenters.
• Capable of driving and delivering thin slices of end-to-end functionality on a regular cadence with data-driven feedback loops.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of proven experience leading software teams
• Experience with running software products written for data center infrastructure services.
• Experience driving software products authored in Python, Java in a Linux/UNIX data center environment
• Experience owning and operating multiple instances of a mission critical service
• Experience leading with Agile development methodology and Test-Driven Development
• Experience using telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence
• Experience working with product management to effectively prioritize features for customers and to achieve timely delivery
