Senior Manager, Software Engineering
About the job
The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Manager to join our OpenShift Container Platform team. In this role you will be responsible for managing and growing a geographically distributed team of engineers, focused on distributed, scalable solutions for the deployment and lifecycle management of OpenShift clusters on multiple infrastructures including customers own bare metal. An understanding of modern cloud-native infrastructure is required. This role includes providing oversight and leadership to a team responsible for the initial scoping and prototyping of solutions, through to productization and all aspects of the Engineering team's responsibility for software components in production, including collaboration with our customer support and Quality Engineering teams. As a Manager, you'll need to have experience as a point of contact with product managers, ensuring that their objectives, along with Red Hat's overall technical strategy, as translated into practical engineering tasks by the team, and that the team's progress is reported on. You'll need to be invested in the career development objectives of the members of the team, to ensure that they have fulfilling, purposeful careers at Red Hat. You'll also need to be able to deal effectively with the wide range of situations that arise in managing people. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do
- Manage a highly productive team of engineers; provide mentoring, guidance, and all of the other forms of managerial support necessary to ensure the successful development of the existing team as well as growth through new hires
- Work with product management and across engineering teams to develop new features and to increase the overall capabilities of the product
- Work with teams responsible for documentation, product support, and quality engineering to ensure the end to end delivery of enterprise-quality software to customers
- Collaborate with other engineering managers on improving communications and processes
What you will bring
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 5+ years of enterprise software development experience
- 3+ years of experience managing software developers and releases of offerings
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with test-based development and agile/scrum methodologies
- Familiarity with distributed systems and architectures
- Understanding of open source development models
The following are considered a plus:
- Prior participation in open source community software development or leadership
- Experience managing geographically dispersed teams
