Description

Mainframe & Data Center Infrastructure's mission is to engineer, operate and support highly available and scalable infrastructures at the enterprise level, which includes mainframe and middleware systems, database operations, data centers and security services. It is our commitment to deliver a frictionless enterprise centric environment.

The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer will assist with the engineering and performance measurement of critical American Express mainframe infrastructure in conjunction with troubleshooting, tuning and debugging of infrastructure applications utilizing the mainframe platform. The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer will report to the Director of Mainframe Application Services.

Qualified applicants will be a subject matter expert in defining and evaluating performance data as well as establishing trends and workload forecasts improving infrastructure an application throughput with epmpashis on cost control. They must also be well-versed in writing policies and defining classes for Work Load Management, have a working knowledge of real time monitoring tools, and experience developing and presenting complex data analytics.

Responsibilities

• Researches, designs, builds, optimizes and maintains reliable, efficient and accessible data systems, data pipelines, machine learning pipelines, and/or models. Can support, with guidance, the analytic and/or operational use of data.
• Build historical trend analysis, help identify anomalies in infrastructure and application performance relative to steady state.
• Evaluation of options and performance of tradeoff and cost benefit analysis.
• Plays multiple roles (e.g. individual contributor, lead, teacher, mentor).
• Designs, builds, tests and manages complex hardware and/or software systems over their life cycles. Sample system domains include but are not limited to: Operating Systems, Transaction Managers (i.e. TPF, CICS, IMS), Middleware, Hardware, Storage, and Virtual Infrastructure.
• Collaborates with business owners to optimize data collection, storage and usage to maximize the value of information within supported systems.
• Collaborates with engineering leadership, product teams and other engineering teams, to uncover pain points and opportunities to accelerate delivery.
• Provides Systems Life Cycle Management; monitors system utilization and performance and conducts system calibration and tuning to ensure system is stable and operating at desired efficiency.
• Aligns closely with Enterprise partners in data science, architecture, governance, infrastructure, and security to apply standards and optimize production environments and practices.

• Must have a Bachelor or Master's degree in a Data Analytics field, Math, Information Technology, Electronic Engineering, Physics, Data Science or related Data Analytics field.
• Expertise in Data Analytics and tooling, Splunk, Jupyter Notebook, Data Science technologies, SPARK, etc.
• Comfortable on Linux systems and proficient at programming languages such as Python with math libraries
• Proficient at building MS Powerpoint presentations, and using excel when needed.
• 4+years data science and performance engineering experience in a complex environment in the Financial Services industry
• Experience with mainframe infrastructure performance, specifically zTPF, zOS, and zLinux would be beneficial but not essential
• Working knowledge of real time monitoring tools Dynatrace, Supervision, Continueous Data Collections, Omegamon, SMF, RMF, Splunk
• Z-based performance data MQ, DB2, TPFDF, IMS, CICS, storage
• Demonstrated exemplary personal integrity and ability to build trust and collaborate across an organization
• A superior ability to motivate and inspire team members to deliver on commitments
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt a message to the appropriate audience
• Strong strategic thinking and decision making skills
