About the Job

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you'll be one of the leaders of our team helping to mentor other engineers, proposing creative and scalable solutions, and de-tangling the complex into the simple. Our engineering team uses Ruby on Rails on the backend, React.js on the web frontend and React Native for our mobile applications. We’re looking for people who are comfortable and interested in working with a little bit of everything.

Join us in creating a better everyday life for everyday people.

You will be:
  • Collaborating with engineering, data, design, and product management to conceptualize new infrastructural features and improvements for our client-facing code
  • Contribute to our technical roadmap of ongoing improvements, enhancements and updates
  • Participate in code reviews, listening to feedback and commenting on other approaches
  • Invest in the documentation of best practices and coding patterns
  • Help solve debugging, testability, and deployability problems
  • Collaborate across teams to promote consistency
  • Improve stability and consistency of existing and new backend & frontend code
You should have:
  • 5-10 years of experience, comfortable working independently
  • 2+ years professional experience developing with Ruby on Rails
  • 1+ years developing with React.js or similar js frameworks
  • Experience building API-driven applications or endpoints
  • Familiar with automated testing and JS build and packaging systems like Jest, Cypress, and Webpack
  • Understand how to organize code across the stack: what belongs in the frontend, what belongs in the backend
  • A strong advocate of clean code
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
It would be a plus if you have:
  • Enjoy helping organize and scope high priority projects and plans to keep us moving forward
  • Experience with a/b testing frameworks such as Optimizely
  • A data-driven approach to development

An Insider's view of Taskrabbit

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

Throughout my time at TaskRabbit, I’ve always found it easy to maintain a work-life balance. Even on a team where my colleagues are spread across several different timezones, I’ve seen our leadership take great care to ensure meetings, deadlines and general workload don’t upset the balance we're all trying to achieve with our careers and home life.

Saidah

Tasker Associate

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

Testing in a two sided market place
As a company we want new features to positively impact clients and tankers. As we release features one challenge is understanding the effects not only on the cohort affected, but the holistic impact on the Tasker-client eco-system.
Optimization of Supply (taskers)-Demand (clients)

Louis

Manager, Data Science

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

TaskRabbit presents me with endless opportunities to take on more challenges. If I want to own something, I often have the chance to volunteer and take it on, and my manager also looks out for projects that fit my growth trajectory. As an Engineering Manager, I am nothing without the support of my team, who I absolutely love.

Katie

Senior Manager, Engineering

How does the company support your career growth?

TR has a robust history of internal promotions and up-skilling. Design at TR is guided by our four commitments and the needs of the people that use our product.
Designers use feedback as a learning opportunity to become better versions of ourselves, while using our career growth ladder as a guide.
