Senior Front-End Software Engineer - Subscriptions
Job Description
The Washington Post is hiring a Senior Front-End Engineer for our subscription team to focus on acquiring and retaining digital subscribers. Digital subscriptions is a fast paced, high growth environment that respects its engineers and customers. We are looking for a self-driven engineer with a conscientious mentality and a commitment to innovate with high quality work. In this role, you have a direct impact on The Post's top line performance and the opportunity to work with colleagues from all parts of the company from Marketing to the Newsroom.
Responsibilities
- Build reusable, user facing front-end components that are shared across other applications for rapid development and scaling to support Digital Subscriptions experiences on washingtonpost.com.
- Extend functionality of internal tools used by Marketing and Newsroom stakeholders to build/deploy site experiences to achieve company subscription goals.
- Write high-quality code with best practices and design patterns in mind and engage in code review/quality assurance.
- Collaborate with designers to implement and extend our Design System across subscription components and their integration across washingtonpost.com.
- Use your experience to help guide technical decisions and participate in technical architecture discussions.
- Work with your partners from different teams and disciplines to create a scalable experimentation and personalization architecture.
- Consult with your partners in Product to form sprint goals and break work into atomic units.
- This role requires limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule will be determined a couple of months after you join, considering team size and other variables.
What we're looking for

- 4-5 years' experience with developing highly scalable, performant Web applications.
- Extensive experience with JavaScript and the React framework.
- Experience with TypeScript.
- Experience writing unit, integration and end to end tests to ensure code quality.
- A keen eye for detail and love of delivering beautiful user experiences that prioritizes performance.
- Experience with DevOps technologies like Docker, Jenkins, and AWS Products.
- Familiarly with module bundling technologies like Webpack.
- Experience in agile software development teams working iteratively with designers, product managers, and stakeholders.
