Allegion is looking for a Senior Firmware Engineer to join a growing advanced development engineering organization focused on wireless connectivity. Specifically, the candidate will be expected to become a subject matter expert on connected home products. Qualified candidates are highly motivated, capable of working collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.

Senior Firmware Engineer responsibilities include participation in firmware specification development, firmware architecture, design, coding, debugging, and participation in code reviews, documentation, unit/integration/system testing, and other assigned engineering tasks. Additional responsibilities include participation in industry consortia, such as the Connectivity Standards Alliance. Individual will be responsible for delivering objectives including meeting deadlines and schedules.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Highly motivated with excellent knowledge in low power embedded firmware design
  • Ability to develop firmware design concepts and architectures for electronic systems
  • Ability to interpret and understand technical specifications published by industry consortia
  • Ability to implement firmware and/or integrate third-party SDKs/libraries that adhere to published technical specifications
  • Responsible for representing Allegion's interests within industry consortia
  • Ability to develop and manage firmware development schedules
  • Capable of developing and providing day to day direction and oversight to other firmware engineers
  • Capable of effectively working with all engineering disciplines in a team environment with good understanding of cross functional design processes (high focus on electronic hardware and mechanical)
  • Responsible for leading firmware design reviews and contributing to overall project design reviews
  • Responsible for delivering technical project documentation
  • Capable of identifying system risks and developing mitigation plans
  • Can quickly complete root cause analysis and implement corrective action while balancing project deadlines
  • Ability to solve problems and lead others in resolving problems
  • Implement and ensure adherence to engineering best practices and procedures
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills, must be resourceful and flexible, and actively participate in decision making processes
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, effective presentation skills
  • Possesses good organizational skills with the ability to contribute to multiple projects
  • Ability to travel up to 5-15%
  • Proficiency with common laboratory equipment such as hand solder instruments, DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other equipment


Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience with the design and development of connected home products
  • Experience with communication standards and protocols such as Matter, Thread, or HomeKit
  • Experience working with Linux build and development environments
  • Experience working with ARM Cortex M Series microcontrollers
  • Experience working with Real Time Operating Systems
  • Familiarity with RFID, Proximity, and Smart card technologies is a plus
  • Familiarity with Z-Wave, ZigBee, Bluetooth Low Energy, and/or Wi-Fi radio hardware is a plus


Required Education and/or Experience:
  • BS or higher in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering, or similar degree
  • 6+ years in new product development
