GitHub is changing the way the world builds software, and we want you to help. We are looking for a compassionate people manager who has previous hands-on engineering experience to join the Delivery team in the Development Experience department.

Our team is responsible for building and maintaining GitHub's runtime platform. This platform enables developers to easily build, deploy and manage the hundreds of applications that make up the world's largest code hosting platform.

In this role you will lead, provide guidance, support and advice to your team. You’ll collaborate across functions and across teams to deliver the best possible developer experience for all engineers at GitHub. You will work in a globally distributed, diverse and passionate team. You will enable your team to design, implement, rollout and support a highly performant, highly scalable and highly available infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate an environment where team members are empowered and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and belonging
  • Meet with team members 1-on-1 on a regular basis
  • Ensure that individuals on the team learn, grow and advance in their respective careers
  • Create a shared understanding of decision making, direction, and progress for the team, the company, and the community. 
  • Responsible for overall planning, execution and success of important technical projects.
  • Working with engineering, design, and product leadership to ensure alignment and progress towards meeting milestones.
  • Lead complex technical projects.
  • Design and build highly available cloud services and distributed systems 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ year experience managing an engineering team
  • Strong technical background and ability to lead complex technical projects  
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Passionate about fostering good engineering practices and processes
  • Experience developing a strategy and roadmap for your team, attention to detail in planning and organisation
  • Experience managing a distributed team  
  • Experience with running, operating, and maintaining production systems
  • Experience designing, building and running large scale and highly available cloud services or distributed systems 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience working with software in languages such as Go &  Ruby.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems

Minimum salary of $149,100 to maximum $221,500 + bonus + equity + benefits.

Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired in Colorado.
