Are you a hands-on engineer who thrives for more opportunities to get out of the office and on machines to operate, learn, test, and ultimately impact the quality that goes out to customers? If so, The Earthmoving Division at Caterpillar is looking for a Senior Engineer at our 2500+ acre (10km^2) Peoria Proving Ground to validate new technologies and systems in real-world applications.
In this role you will ensure the core machine controls and technologies like zero-emissions, remote and autonomous operation are developed and validated to Caterpillar's high-quality standards. This role is great for those looking to round out their career with hands-on machine experience, machine application knowledge, and experience with the latest technologies.
As the Senior Engineer - Validation and Test, you can expect to:
- Work with the latest technology such as remote control, zero-emissions, and autonomy.
- Perform software validation by operating heavy equipment - We'll teach you how!
- Collaborate with internal development teams to understand New Product Introduction (NPI) program content, develop validation plans, and report back issues as identified.
To be successful in this role, you must bring (Basic Qualifications) :
- A bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Technology related curriculum.
- At least 3 years of experience in design, analysis and/or testing.
- Hands-on experience with electrical / electronic control systems.
- Experience with CAN and J1939 data link communications.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
- Safety-first mindset.
Top Candidates Will Also Bring (Desired but not required) :
- Experience with developing software test plans.
- Experience with hydraulics or steering development.
- Experience with Functional Safety.
- Experience with of Automotive Ethernet and XCP communication protocols.
- Working knowledge of datalink tools (CANape / CANalyzer / Vehicle Spy / Wireshark).
- Experience with Caterpillar internal tools (Electronic Technician, CADeT, DATk, Supercomm 2).
- Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Emphasis on initiative and self-starting tasks.
