Senior Engineer - Engine Performance & System Integration Validation
When you Join Team Caterpillar, as a Senior Validation Engineer in the Industrial Power Systems Division, you will serve as i-Model champion on projects and assignments that make significant contributions relating to Caterpillar's core technologies. You will create and maintain an organizational climate / culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement / commitment and a sense of urgency towards business success. The position is within the Virtual Product Development team where you will be a champion of the integrated knowledge model (i-Model) process utilizing simulation, test, and field data in support of new engine product development. You will continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology and deepen your professional network.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Developing robust validation plans comprising an optimal mix of simulation, test and field data with more focus on diesel engine performance calibration, system integration, advanced controls, mechatronics to ensure Caterpillar engine products are durable and reliable
- Leading and contributing to FMEA sessions and validation improvement workshops to identify failure modes and risks that can be mitigated and correlated with simulation and bench/lab/field tests
- Leading identification of robust risk assessment controls of i-Model development (Reduced ordered models, Remaining useful life models etc.) for simulation as well as bench/component testing and engine testing
- Driving Simulation-Led Design (SLD) and i-Model methodology in engine performance space
- Coordinating activities with simulation and lab teams
- Communicating validation plans and results with L3/L4/L5 teams
- Championing a design-for-life methodology
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in an accredited Engineering or Materials Science curriculum
- 6+ years of experience in product design, development. simulation and testing/validation
- Must-have hands-on lab and / or simulation experience in diesel engine performance / calibration / validation development
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering or Materials Science curriculum
- Experience in diesel engine performance calibration, system integration, advanced controls, mechatronics in design/simulation/test and an understanding of the FMEA process and validation cycle
- Previous experience with engine performance validation and field problem/failure resolution
- Knowledge of Engine performance 1D simulation modeling tools, MATLAB/SIMULINK is a plus
- Self-starter with proven team leadership skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong communication skills
