Job Description Who we are:
The Digital Platform & Services Team is responsible for assessing emerging trends, technologies, electronic platforms, potential partnerships and building digital products - that could transform the way we, and our clients, do business. The team is thoughtful in balancing due diligence with speed to market and creativity with discipline to produce best-in-class, efficient, thoughtful digital solutions for our clients.
The group is divided into small, highly motivated, agile teams. Software deliveries are frequent, and the team members are expected to be multi-disciplined and flexible in their approach, working in all areas of the solution space. Each team is responsible for the design, build and maintenance of highly available and scalable systems with focus on making lives of other engineers in CIB easier and their products reliable and more performant, supporting hundreds of applications and thousands of developers.
This role is specific to a platform service that is used to distribute notifications to hundreds of thousands of end users across many different channels. We are transforming our Notifications services, shifting to an API-first development model, scaling to hundreds of millions of notifications and creating a service that has fully automated integration for our internal engineering community
Your role:
You are a senior engineer who can help shape the Notifications platform service that is used by engineers to deliver critical applications that are used by our clients across the globe.
Working across all stages of the agile software development lifecycle, you will develop and deploy microservices that enable engineers across the firm to integrate with Notifications. We're building cloud-native services with telemetry and auto-scaling built in. Our services are built using automated CICD pipelines.
You will help shape the engineering culture to be centered on collaboration, quality, and best practice, enabling us to build the right software in a way that enables the broader J.P. Morgan engineering community to deliver the best experiences possible for our clients. Collectively you will work with your Notifications peers and across the Digital Platform which includes other engineers, architects, designers, cyber and product teams to build the best solutions possible.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Development of Java-based microservices and APIs
  • Writing code that is well-designed, reusable, extensible, observable, and self-documenting
  • Optimizing our services to scale from the outset with telemetry
  • Coaching and mentoring less-experienced peers
  • Working alongside Product Management to engage our stakeholders
  • Handling escalations from our operations & support team

Required Experience:
  • Development of microservices using Java/Spring Boot
  • Building solutions that utilize event streaming, e.g. Kafka
  • Engineering scalable and resilient services using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Implementing persistence using a NoSQL database, e.g. Cassandra
  • Engineering solutions that provide an exceptional developer experience
  • Adherence to development best practices, including continuous delivery, API-first and test-driven development
  • Accountability for the full software development lifecycle from requirements gathering through delivery

Why join?
This is a fascinating time in our industry. Complacency is not an option - our team embraces technology and innovation, knowing this is how we're going to thrive in the years to come. We are looking for others with a similar mindset to join our journey.
You will:
  • Work on some of the most complex problems imaginable at the intersection of two dynamic industries: Finance and Technology.
  • Interact with unbelievably large and fascinating data currently not available anywhere else.
  • Develop products that can change the way our clients operate, and how Banking is done today.
  • Interact with other high-performing teams within JPM to inspire innovation and champion change throughout the bank.

An Insider's view of JPMorgan Chase

What’s the vibe like in the office?

My favorite thing about JPMorgan Chase is the vast number of problems we solve, and the diversity it takes to do that. Moving money, enabling payments and producing a world class customer experience are just a fraction of what we work on. Because the office is so casual and open, I get to participate in discussions on all of this.

Nick S.

Executive Director, Software Engineering

What projects are you most excited about?

As one of the largest financial institutions in the world, our scope of impact is huge. Knowing that a system we deliver is responsible for things millions do daily such as paying for groceries, withdrawing cash, or getting a loan pushes us toward solutions that scale, which is the most challenging but also the most rewarding part of our projects.

Edwin T.

Executive Director, Site Reliability Engineering

How does the company support your career growth?

JPMorgan has helped me develop as a professional – both as a technologist and as a business leader. I have taken advantage of executive leadership training and development aligned to the firm’s culture of “How We Do Business.” I feel good about working for a firm that invests in its #1 asset – US!

Lupe C.

Executive Director

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

Empowerment for Idea generation, problem solving and innovation is best coming from those who do the work. I engage my technologist in high profile work and foster an environment where ideas are welcome. Empowerment of our technologists is the key to success. Teams dig in, innovate and identify ways to create a better client experience.

Dawn T.

Managing Director, Software Engineering

How does the company support your career growth?

Working at JPMC has been a wonderful experience. I love how much JPMorgan Chase cares about its communities by offering support of technologists to local non-profit organizations through social innovation programs. The company also invests in its employees and provides many learning opportunities to us.
