Primary Responsibilities:
  • Sets the technical vision and strategy for data and analytic product engineering teams based on business goals and roadmaps
  • Evaluate and make decisions around the use of new or existing technologies and tools, influence Technology and Business leaders and their technical teams to build the right systems that can scale to the needs of the business
  • Provide engineering leadership across teams to empower and transform the engineering culture, mindset, and delivery practices
  • Build and mature architecture and engineering data management capabilities and establish a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement. Accelerate the depth and breadth of engineering skills across all engineering practices
  • Partner with Optum business and technology leadership to drive transformation, innovation, and adoption of modern data technology architecture and engineering best practices
  • Collaborate and partner with Optum business leaders to ensure technology solutions generate the maximum business value and meet business needs both short-term and long-term
  • Apply technical expertise, leadership, and governance to guide teams in solution design decisions that balance short term needs with the long term strategy
  • Build exemplary solutions in terms of efficiency, stability, extensibility, and the ability to evolve over time
  • Create patterns and accelerators that streamline common engineering tasks through automation, prebuilt pipelines, guided tutorials, and documentation

Required Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree or an additional 2 years of experience in lieu of a degree
  • 15+ years of progressive technology and architecture leadership experience
  • 5+ years of experience in data or software engineering and agile software development practices
  • 3+ years of experience deploying Cloud based solutions
  • Broad technology experience, including complex systems integration and infrastructure expertise with cloud platforms
  • Hands on experience with modern Data Platforms and technology stacks and willingness to get into the details
  • Track record of success building scalable technology solutions that support reporting and analytic teams
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences at the C-level
  • Experience leading multiple global software engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to "connect the dots" in order to conceptualize new solutions for the business, and skill set that blends architecture and strategy with hands on experience and knowhow.
  • Experience in Healthcare business and technology
  • Experience in architecting using modern API and data access patterns and technologies such as: Kafka, noSQL solutions, GraphQL, Big Data, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Modern languages: Go, Python, Java, Rust
  • Demonstrated success leveraging technology to meet business objectives
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities and an enterprise-wide perspective
  • Leadership style which fosters accountability, transparent communication, and innovation
  • Outstanding collaboration, influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Innovative orientation and customer first mindset

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary/hourly range for Colorado residents is $134,200 to $257,700. The salary/hourly range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $134,200 to $257,700. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
