Viasat is looking for a technology leader to guide our Global Enterprise & Mobility access network and terminal product development team. This team develops and supports the fastest growing segment in Viasat across our Commercial Air, Business Aviation, Land Mobile, Maritime, Enterprise & IoT businesses.

The ideal candidate has built and led geographically distributed engineering teams developing revolutionary hard tech solutions. You will lead the engineering team to set the strategy, direction, and vision for the team. You will fully develop and manage all phases of products development from requirements decomposition through production and release.

Your ability to synthesize the business & product needs, determine development priorities for the teams, and manage the successful execution of complex development workstreams will be put to the test in this exciting role. Coupled with a successful track record leading multi-disciplined engineering teams, transformational leadership, and execution skills will place you in an awesome position to succeed in this role. You will ultimately be responsible for products that deliver a fantastic experience for our customers and contribute to a meaningful impact on service growth.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Translate corporate and segment vision into concrete, measurable engineering deliverables
  • Envision, establish, and implement a workforce structured for the achievement of product roadmaps and milestones
  • Set engineering roadmap and priorities, and efficiently run day-to-day operations by sharing clear execution plans with segment leadership
  • Drive and develop KPIs that measure the execution and performance across the development side of the business
  • Enable aggressive product completion timelines while ensuring quality targets are achieved
  • Lead, Manage and inspire leaders on the team capable of the diverse skill sets needed to span research to consumer product
  • Develop engineering talent and career ladders, establishing a high-performance culture
  • Partner closely with the leadership team, particularly Product, to ensure that Engineering is in lock-step with strategy and absolutely aligned with the Product goals
  • Collaborate with leadership across Viasat to innovate on technology and deliver on annual and multi-year development plans
  • Coordinate and collaborate with cross functional peers in operations and commercial functions
  • Partner with corporate VP of Engineering and segment leadership to achieve strategic business priorities and financial goals through engineering excellence



Requirements:

  • 10+ year's experience in leading distributed engineering teams with multiple streams of work and sophisticated, multi-faceted goals and delivering high quality product on time on budget.
  • Strong design engineering expertise in embedded software/hardware electronics development for building advanced communication products and services. DevOps SW experience for satellite communications a plus
  • Experience in mobile communications markets, with a preference in satellite communication-based mobility markets (specific aerospace HW/SW experience is a plus)
  • Proven experience in coordinating requirements, budgets and technology roadmaps with internal and external stakeholders who may have competing priorities to optimize business outcomes
  • Demonstrated financial acumen - make data driven roadmap decisions weighing investment and return tradeoffs yet considering qualitative factors such as segment growth strategies and user experience.
  • Transformational leadership skills - Ability to balance need to foster innovation while driving performance and efficiency improvements.
  • Proven experience leading and making decisions for build vs buy, insource vs outsourcing strategies
  • Experience operating in a CI/CD, DevOps and Agile Scrum methodology while remaining open to new innovations in development methodologies
  • Extensive experience integrating product roadmaps into engineering roadmap

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering
