The Application Platform team is responsible for our key internal platforms used by our application teams to build features across the entire stack from native and web applications to highly scalable backend services and persistence layers.

As the Senior Director of Engineering, you will select, mentor, and develop the leaders and individual contributors of the Application Platform department. Reporting to the VP of engineering as a key member of Credit Karma's technical leadership team, you will be responsible for designing and leading a multi-year technical roadmap, managing technology investments.

What you'll do:

  • You'll work closely with senior engineering leadership and stakeholders to establish technology strategy
  • You'll work directly with a team of talented leaders and technical individuals to accomplish the strategy
  • You'll build strong cross-functional partnerships with senior leaders in product management, user experience, and other engineering teams across the company, to align on a strategy and roadmap
  • You'll strategically plan platform product roadmap to increase the productivity of the entire engineering team
  • You'll proactively identify areas that can improve our architecture or technology

What we are looking for:

  • 15+ years of experience in software development
  • 10+ years of experience leading highly effective software engineering teams
  • 5+ years of experience in leading Platform teams at scale
  • Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (equivalent job experience is acceptable as well)
  • Previously managed a minimum of 5+ direct reports with a team of 20+
  • Minimum 5 years related people management experience

What we would like to see:

  • Strong distributed systems and architecture knowledge with the ability to articulate complex technical solutions
  • Familiarity with native and application architectures
  • Experience working directly with executive stakeholders
  • Hands-on coding experience, in Java, JavaScript, Scala

Pay Transparency Notice: Credit Karma’s mission of championing financial progress for all starts from within. That’s why we implemented role-based compensation, which ensures people who are in the same role receive the same pay with variations for geographic location only. It’s all part of a more comprehensive DEI strategy that helps level the playing field. The base salary range for this role is $278,400 to $312,000, plus equity and benefits.
