About the job
The Red Hat Information Technology (IT) team is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will serve as a key member of the IT Training and Certification team, responsible for implementing and improving continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) processes supporting application developers. You will implement and lead application migrations, create and manage build and deployment pipelines, ensure that artifacts meet enterprise security standards and are kept updated, develop application monitoring and logging practices, and provide front-line support for integration errors. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will contribute to the team's capabilities by demonstrating technical competence, initiative, creativity, learning, sharing, and teamwork while collaborating with globally distributed team members and stakeholders. Remote candidates with required skills and demonstrated success working on their own may also be considered.
What you will do

  • Manage application build and deployment pipelines, meeting a variety of application deployment patterns
  • Implement and lead application migrations
  • Manage multi-site network and load balancing configurations
  • Configure monitoring tools to actively gather performance metrics
  • Manage security artifacts required to meet enterprise security standards
  • Create and manage alerts detecting service anomalies; work with the team to resolve defects
  • Build application monitoring dashboards
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for performing maintenance tasks, applying configuration changes, and remediating problems in our environment
  • Provide Tier 1-2 production support
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application and performance issues
  • Document and transfer knowledge; develop capabilities of the production support team


What you will bring

  • 5+ years of experience managing Linux servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, or Fedora
  • 4+ years of experience with enterprise system monitoring; knowledge of New Relic, Splunk, Grafana, or Prometheus is a plus
  • 3+ years of experience with deploying and monitoring container-based applications; knowledge of Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes
  • Experience with containerized application migrations across datacenters or deployment platforms
  • Solid experience with CI and CD automation technologies
  • Solid understanding of standard TCP/IP networking and common protocols like DNS and HTTP
  • Experience managing multi-site, highly-available applications or services
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately troubleshoot system issues
  • Demonstrated success in learning new technologies
  • Experience with source code control platforms, preferably Git
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English


The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience developing web applications or middleware in Python
  • Experience developing core Java or JEE applications, integration routes, microservices, or APIs
  • Experience working on agile development teams (scrum or kanban)
  • Experience with Make or Groovy scripting
