Job Objective:

A Senior DevOps Engineer streamlines the software development lifecycle to improve developer productivity, delivery speed, and code quality. Works closely with development, operations and security teams to identify and resolve pain points and inefficiencies in delivery workflows. Key responsibilities include automating delivery processes and maintaining the continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. Collaborates with the DevOps team to ensure the delivery of targeted business outcomes through facilitating and guiding technical decisions. Consults on technology implementation and modification activities, particularly for new or shared infrastructure solutions. Mentors and leads members of the DevOps team and identifies areas of improvement in their DevOps skillset to assist them in achieving those goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Streamline the software development lifecycle

Consolidates the inputs of other members of the DevOps team to drive improvement to impediments in the software development lifecycle and to minimize their impact, reducing overall time-to-delivery for business solutions. Looks for inefficiencies and process delays in release cycles and drives industry accepted solutions to these problems. Coordinates across multiple development teams to ensure code quality to prevent errors in the build process.

2. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines

Builds, maintains and monitors automated pipelines. Builds continuous integration pipelines to facilitate developer teams' contributions so that they are able to commit code changes at all times. Builds continuous delivery pipelines to ensure robust automated procedures can be used to release software updates at designated times. Work with Product Owners and other business users to build approval processes into automated pipelines that satisfy business or regulatory requirements. Investigates failures in build or release pipelines, and works with responsible developer teams for quick resolution. Investigates CI/CD problems introduced by external forces outside of DevOps control (enterprise security, internet outages, and hardware failures) and develops plans to mitigate impact. Monitors the Octopus Deploy system for any problems during releases and assists Release Operators in the event of a failure preventing a project from releasing on schedule.

3. Leads and Collaborates to Deliver Business Outcomes

Leverages subject matter experts from any other needed technical area. Consults on technology implementation and modification activities (for example, projects and products), particularly for new or shared infrastructure solutions. Consults on application or infrastructure development projects to harmonize systems or infrastructure with the enterprise technology architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise technical architecture (ETA) to accommodate immediate or future project needs. Creates and delivers working, production-ready reference implementations that can be leveraged easily by Agile teams. Works closely with the product managers, product owners and architects to enable infrastructure agility, scalability and resilience to support required product needs throughout product lifecycle. Collaborates with business constituents, other DevOps team members, project teams and staff in various IT functional areas as needed to fulfill the responsibilities described above. Documents necessary enterprise technology architecture design and analysis work, possibly including project postmortem documentation and metric collection.

4. Mentor and coach junior level DevOps engineers

Works with other members of the DevOps team to identify areas of improvement in their DevOps skillset and assists them in achieving those goals. Reviews automated pipeline changes made by junior engineers for completeness and accuracy. Understands company policies and procedures and is able to explain them to junior engineers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (*minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job function)

*Bachelor degree in computer science, information-technology, or a related study, or equivalent experience

*5-7 years of design and implementation experience in DevOps

Preferred Knowledge:

4 years of experience in software engineering.

Insurance coverages and rating and insurance products

Principles of finance, business, statistics, and insurance

Insurance industry and marketing techniques

Experience working in an Agile environment

Solid understanding of product management, Agile principles and development methodologies

Skills:

*Experience developing CI/CD workflows and tools.

*Strong automation scripting skills.

*Experience in configuration management, test-driven development and release management.

*Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

*Experience with agile development and strong understanding of DevOps principles.

*Ability to investigate and analyze information, and to draw conclusions.

*Flexibility, adaptability and desire to learn new languages and technologies.

*Strong verbal and written communication skills.
