Job summary
The Red Hat IT team is looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will work in a small team of system and cloud engineers to understand public and private cloud platform interdependencies and interactions, collaborate with internal and external teams to define business requirements, and implement highly available and scalable enterprise solutions. You'll help improve agility and resilience and identify opportunities to reduce IT operations spend through automation by enabling cloud-based services. As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will also use your cloud and system engineering and automation background to develop, integrate, deploy, and maintain Red Hat's internal private and public cloud solutions.
Cloud engineering supports our customers as they improve agility and resilience, and identifies opportunities to reduce IT operations spend through automation. We accelerate our customers toward a technology-driven future, using vendor solutions, software products, tools, and accelerators.
Primary job responsibilities

  • Implement and support the integration and deployment Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solutions, including public and private clouds
  • Research, test, certify, and standardize private and public cloud technologies related to
  • but not limited to networking, application delivery, security, performance, availability, and interoperability
  • Develop and support Python, Bash, and Perl-based scripts, tooling, and services primarily deployed on Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Red Hat Virtualization, and Google Cloud Platform
  • Write and support Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform playbooks
  • Provide underlying functionality and platform services to allow for self-service models for application teams
  • Develop intelligent solutions to monitor and remediate cloud resource performance and health to meet service level objectives
  • Establish and update cloud standards and best practices as it relates to cloud technologies
  • Build service delivery mechanisms, including configuration management, containers, and continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) automation
  • Provide assistance to application teams consuming Red Hat's internal Infrastructure-as-a-Software (IaaS) systems, including client and service configuration
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, supporting the Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure (HCI) team's production services
  • Collaborate with peer groups across the company to ensure consistent standards-based implementations and practices


Required skills

  • 5+ years of experience working as a cloud engineer or administrator, or system engineer in a Linux environment
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of cloud infrastructure like AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Red Hat OpenStack, Red Hat Virtualization, Docker
  • Scripting or development experience in objective oriented programming language like Python, Java, Ruby, Perl, or Go
  • Highly motivated to learn new technologies


The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience with software configuration management (SCM) and configuration management tools like Git, Puppet, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, or CFEngine
  • Experience architecting AWS, Azure, or Google (GCP) Cloud solutions
  • Experience with scaling or securing a cloud or container platform (e.g., Kubernetes, OpenShift, GKE)
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification
